Local lore holds that the family who built the house in the 1800s never moved on, and some later residents did not either. Accounts point to the basement as the epicenter of activity. A male presence is said to guard a dark back corner, appearing as a moving shadow that glides toward the staircase. Whistling and ceiling knocks are often attributed to him, and during EVP sessions he has been heard asking for help and claiming he is buried beneath the floor under the pool table, a spot described as hollow. Upstairs, each bedroom carries its own stories. In the Red Room, Flora Root is said to circle the bed and watch sleepers, with reports of a choking feeling and scratches found on necks. Curtis Root, who died in 1889 after a racehorse accident, is described as following visitors around the house after they sleep in his room.
