Celebrate October Big Day with a guided bird walk at the Marine Nature Study Area, led by a member of SSAS. This free outing welcomes the public, and young birders are especially encouraged to participate. Walks with SSAS typically take place most weekends, on either Saturday or Sunday mornings, from late August through early June. If it rains, the walk is canceled. For directions, travel south on Long Beach Road from Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre, turn left onto Waukena Avenue and follow the brown sanctuary signs. Turn right at the light onto Park Avenue, then left on Golf Drive. Continue to Slice Drive, turn right, and go one short block into the sanctuary.

Enjoy a guided bird walk at Massapequa Lake that highlights migrating waterfowl along with other bird species. The walk is led by a member of SSAS, is free, and is open to the public. The lake is at the southern end of Massapequa Preserve, situated between Lakeshore Boulevard and Ocean Avenue.
