A Puertas Abiertas de Patricia Suarez

    Cleveland · LatinUs Blackbox Theater, 2937 W 25th St

A play by Patricia Suárez, directed by Eddy Díaz Souza, places three women in a peculiar reading room that serves as an intellectual purgatory. Orietta, a strict school principal, and Ulrike, an actress determined to be acknowledged, fulfill their punishments under the watch of Dr. Recayente, an ophthalmologist who examines their eyes and assigns books as part of their sentence. The routine fractures with the arrival of Marina, whose suicide pact with her lover did not unfold as intended, and their confessions expose the choices that brought them to this shared hell. Loosely inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit, the piece reshapes the existential premise with biting irony and absurd turns, revealing how guilt, identity, and unfinished business tangle their fates. Talk of open doors to reincarnation suggests a possible return to Earth, prompting questions about escape, responsibility, and whether leaving is truly better than staying. What begins as confinement turns into a darkly comic exploration of punishment and the hope of a second chance.

    Haunted Head-To-Head

Cleveland · Pinball Planet, 6277 Pearl Rd

Haunted Head-To-Head is a competitive tournament in Cleveland, OH with a 64 player cap, including four spots reserved for tournament staff. Day one features Swiss group matchplay qualifying with rounds alternating between older and newer era games, and there is no scheduled meal break during qualifying. Day two moves to head-to-head, single elimination, best-of-five playoffs. In each match both players select one new and one old game, the higher seed may choose a deciding fifth game if needed, and no repeat picks are allowed in back-to-back rounds. The field splits into an A division for the top half of qualifiers and a B division for competitors ranked outside the IFPA top 250, with IFPA top 250 players ineligible for B. The first evening is left open for casual play or Halloween plans, and a Halloween Bash is also planned later. Entry is $20, with $1 going to IFPA fees and $19 to the prize pool, plus Eventbrite fees and coin drop.

Cleveland · Mandel Concert Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave

This program links two symphonic trailblazers, pairing Haydn with Mahler for a journey across musical eras. Haydn, often called the father of the symphony, offers Symphony No. 80, a polished Classical jewel that points toward the innovations to come. Guest conductor Peter Popelka then leads Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, a sweeping voyage that moves through solemn funeral marches, striking horn calls, and tender love music, building to a finale that goes all out.
