Washington & Greene Counties Covered Bridge Festival

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Rd, Avella · verified Sep 6
    Free

Meadowcroft offers complimentary admission during Washington & Greene Counties’ Annual Covered Bridge Festival, highlighting the historic Pine Bank Covered Bridge. Built in 1871, the bridge once spanned Tom’s Run in the village of Pine Bank in Greene County. When demolition loomed in 1961, Meadowcroft founder Albert Miller preserved the structure by moving it nearly 70 miles to its current location. Now a restored pedestrian bridge with a significant rehabilitation completed in 2017, it showcases 19th century workmanship at a time when fewer than 700 of the more than 10,000 covered bridges that once existed in the United States remain. Festival visitors can walk the bridge and explore Meadowcroft’s historic villages at no cost, with optional Rockshelter tours available for $5 per person. The bridge is open to pedestrians only, and vehicles are not permitted.

Washington & Greene Counties Covered Bridge Festival

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Rd, Avella · verified Sep 6
    Free

During Washington and Greene Counties' Annual Covered Bridge Festival, Meadowcroft offers free admission. Explore the Pine Bank Covered Bridge, a 19th century structure dating to 1871 that originally spanned Tom's Run in the village of Pine Bank in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Facing demolition in 1961, the bridge was preserved when Meadowcroft founder Albert Miller relocated it nearly 70 miles to its present setting. Restored and rehabilitated in 2017, it stands today as a pedestrian-only landmark that reflects Western Pennsylvania heritage. When it was first built there were more than 10,000 covered bridges across the United States, and fewer than 700 remain, which makes this a rare example to experience. Access to the bridge and Meadowcroft's historic villages is free during the festival, while Rockshelter tours are available for $5 per person. Please note that only pedestrians may enter the bridge and vehicles are not permitted.
