SAHC is offering a free self defense class through the Sexual Assault Help Center, an organization dedicated to ending sexual violence, human trafficking, and stalking. The Empowered Self Defense workshop runs for two hours and blends conversation with hands-on skills to help reduce risk and teach life-saving techniques. It begins with a 30-minute discussion that challenges common myths about how people who cause harm behave. Participants then examine Power and Control, looking at tactics that create vulnerability and increase risk. The session also explores how the brain reacts in frightening situations and practical ways to move through those responses. The final portion focuses on adaptable physical strategies for protection that can work for any level of ability. This class welcomes everyone across ages, abilities, and genders, with accommodations available for those who have movement-related disabilities. Comfortable clothing and water are recommended, and participants are encouraged to take care of themselves throughout the workshop. The Sexual Assault Help Center also provides round-the-clock survivor support, community prevention education, and free risk reduction programs like this workshop.
