Marking a milestone birthday, Marcia “DAVinylMC” Carr, founder and Creative Director of Girlz B Like, delivers an open to close birthday edition session at GROW in Hackney Wick. Across seven hours she charts a journey through Black music, moving from beloved classics to future-facing selections. The soundtrack ranges through funk, boogie, broken beat, gospel, deeper house, Hi Life, and other sounds from around the world.

Dress to impress in 1980s glam for the OKIPA 2026 Gala, a fun in-person evening with entertainment, delicious food, and plenty of surprises. The night includes a VIP sponsorship hour, grand arrival, doors opening for general admission, a welcome, dinner service, featured program and guest speakers, and both a live and silent auction. There’s also a midnight live concert featuring the Journey Tribute Band. Doors open at 4:30 PM, and parking is free.

Her humorous storytelling has made waves on TikTok, drawing national attention from The Tamron Hall Show and The Tom Segura Podcast.

New Orleans native Mia Borders takes the stage with a sound that blends deep soul, crisp songwriting, and vibrant energy. Her catalog spans over a dozen releases on her independent label, Blaxican Records, showcasing a commanding voice and lyrics that resonate. Her commitment to community is part of the story too. She founded The Borders Foundation, a 501c3 supporting artists from marginalized backgrounds, and leads Third Coast Entertainment, a booking and production company focused on elevating women, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC performers. Look forward to a set that channels both artistic fire and a spirit of advocacy.

This welcoming session at McFarlin UMC is for anyone who wants to learn to play, including beginners and those who have not read music in years.
