The discussion considers what makes Margaret singular in the canon, including her life portrayed from youth to old age and the extraordinary number of lines she speaks, and how her story illuminates evolving ideas about gender, power, and theatrical collaboration. O’Malley holds a doctorate in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism from the Yale School of Drama and has worked at theatres across the United States, and he is the editor of Toward a Just Pedagogy of Performance. Stern is a scholar and critic, author of The Trials of Nina McCall and There Is a Deep Brooding in Arkansas, both recognized by The New York Times. Stephen Greenblatt has praised this exploration for its imaginative approach to one of Shakespeare’s most formidable women.
