Dayenu: It Would Have Been Enough is a solo exhibition by Pittsburgh fiber artist Louise Silk, bringing together a completely new collection of hand-sewn work in one cohesive presentation following her major 2024 retrospective at the Heinz History Center. Crafted from repurposed materials drawn from both her own remnants and found textiles, the pieces include art and scrap quilts, flags, kaftans, portraits, and pillows that stitch personal memories and moments into visual narratives. The exhibition draws on Silk’s spiritual practice, interweaving themes from Judaism and Zen Buddhism. Its title references the Passover Seder song Dayenu, and each quilt serves as an expression of gratitude. Silk has created art quilts for more than five decades, has shown her work across the United States, and has presented seven solo exhibitions, including Louise Silk: A Patchwork Life in 2024. She lives and works in the South Side and was recently featured in Art of Pittsburgh’s South Side.
