Finding Light by L. Robert Stanfield
Art League of Hilton Head presents Finding Light, a new exhibition by local artist L. Robert Stanfield at Art League Gallery inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island. Featuring abstract mixed media paintings alongside sculptural pieces, the collection considers resilience, renewal, and the strength that emerges when hope is shared. The work suggests that helping to brighten someone else’s path can reveal one’s own way forward. Stanfield’s pieces are built through layered processes with metallic accents and luminous surfaces that respond to shifting light, drawing viewers into a calm, reflective experience where color, motion, and texture carry feeling and meaning. He describes his practice as a search for light, growth, and human connection, aiming to spark moments of pause, reflection, and possibility. A resident of Hilton Head Island since 1999, Stanfield studied at Savannah College of Art and Design and has shown his work widely across the Lowcountry. His career also includes extensive work in arts education, helping others use creativity as a pathway to growth and healing. His art appears in private collections and public settings, including MD Anderson Cancer Center and MiraSol Health. Admission is free and open to the public.

Performances run for hours, featuring regional bands and tribute groups saluting legends such as Bob Marley, along with original roots reggae, dub, and island-tinged sounds, all framed by the water and moss-draped oaks. Beyond the stage, the gathering carries the feel of a small cultural fair. Food vendors serve Caribbean favorites like jerk chicken, rice and peas, and plantains, alongside Southern staples. Local makers showcase handmade goods, artwork, and island-themed merchandise. The setting is family friendly and unhurried, with small to mid-sized crowds and plenty of room to relax. Attendees often bring lawn chairs and blankets, and some even arrive with kayaks or paddleboards to enjoy the scenery. The focus stays on sunshine, community, and feel-good rhythm rather than big-name headliners, creating a mellow riverside experience suited to unwinding instead of partying hard.

September Artist in Residence - Annie Moran
FLOW Gallery + Workshop hosts an Artist in Residence program featuring Annie Moran, where visitors can meet the New Orleans based artist and hear how mural work and the Louisiana bayou influence her creative process. The schedule includes a nature journaling workshop in the Conservancy Classroom that ventures into Palmetto Bluff to observe local surroundings. Participants receive a bound sketchbook and learn field journaling practices used by artists and scientists, along with insights into the creative and wellness benefits of this approach, then create sketches with charcoal, pencil, and ink. A step by step floral watercolor session at FLOW Gallery + Workshop focuses on painting a pink Japanese magnolia blossom. Paints, paper, and brushes are provided, and techniques such as wet in wet and glazing are covered. No drawing experience is necessary, as an outline is traced before developing an individual watercolor piece. Raised in rural Louisiana and seasoned by years in New York’s fashion industry, Annie now concentrates on watercolor, murals, and wallpaper and textile design that celebrate the landscapes, culture, and spirit of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. During this residency, she leads immersive experiences that include a Conservancy walk and sketch, fundamentals of mural and painting, and Lowcountry inspired techniques that encourage exploration of nature through observation and creative expression.
