The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center hosts the 10th Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention at the Culinary Institute of the South at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Bluffton. Designed for current book club members, those considering joining a group, and readers who simply enjoy books, this gathering brings authors and readers together for a full day of literary conversation. The program features a keynote conversation with Colleen Oakley and Cassandra King, an author discussion with Dana Ridenour and Susan Zurenda interviewed by Margaret Evans, and an author presentation with Jennifer Moorman in conversation with Annette Flavel. Book sales and signing opportunities are offered throughout the event, including after each session. A lunch break includes gourmet box lunches provided by Catering by Debbi Covington. Discover the art of the fantastical in a hands-on workshop with instructor Samantha Dwornikoski. Through guided lessons, explore the roots of fantasy imagery and how it shapes the stories seen across today’s creative media. Build skills in myth-inspired symbolism and visual language, refine style and tone with expressive design, and strengthen fundamentals like anatomy, shape, lighting, and rendering. Learn the instructor’s underdrawing and color-wash layering approach to take an illustration from rough concept to a fully finished piece. Suitable for beginners as well as experienced artists, the focus is on imaginative, story-driven artwork and professional techniques. Tuition is $100, with a $90 rate for members.

A local veterinarian will provide essential care for dogs and cats, including vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchipping. Rabies vaccines are available as a one-year option for $15 or a three-year option for $25. Core vaccines cost $15 for DHPP for dogs and FVRCP for cats. Additional protection is offered with FeLV for cats and Bordetella for dogs at $25 each. Heartworm testing is $25, and microchips are $25.

Players will compete under National Mahjongg Tournament rules using the official 2026 Mahjongg card, with three rounds of four games each. A snack break is planned, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers, and a cash raffle and auction will raise additional funds for the cause. Entry is $35 per person and all proceeds are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. Space is limited to 40 players and advance registration is required, with spots allocated in the order registrations are received. During play, cell phones are not permitted and only game materials and each player’s card may be on the table.
