Whispers from the Soul | Artwork by Theresa King

At Art League Gallery, Whispers from the Soul showcases self-taught artist Theresa King in an intimate exhibition of expressive paintings shaped by a lifelong connection to nature. The work explores healing, spirituality, and the living landscape, creating a quiet space for reflection. Clouds and a sense of movement recur, echoing the calm she found watching the sky as a child. King began her practice in the 1980s and refined her voice through experimentation, ultimately embracing oils after trying other media. Her process is intuitive and spiritually guided, with concepts that surface from dreams. Profound life experiences, including a cancer journey and years of caregiving, inform these canvases. She learned to acknowledge difficult emotions while focusing on sources of joy, evolving a personal understanding of healing energy that she channels into color and imagery to foster peace. The exhibition is accompanied by an opening event, demonstrations by the artist, and a talk on how color affects people emotionally. Admission is free for the exhibition and all related activities. King’s distinctive style, centered on healing energy, spirituality, and the natural world, has earned recognition among collectors and art enthusiasts internationally.

The Bluffton Tea Party! Unearthing the Story of Tea in the Colonies

At the Bluffton Branch Library, this summer reading celebration invites attendees to explore how tea shaped life in Colonial America while connecting the Unearth a Story theme with the nationwide America 250 commemoration. The program delves into tea’s place in colonial culture, the rituals of tea time, and South Carolina’s Charleston Tea Party, a notable protest against Britain’s Tea Act that helped spark revolutionary momentum. A colonial-style social tea follows with conversation and refreshments, and participants receive tea samples to take home, provided by the Friends of the Bluffton Library. Registration is required so seating and tea tables can be arranged in advance.
