During his residency at Palmetto Bluff he leads experiences focused on observing, sketching, and painting coastal landscapes and wildlife.

Author and living history presenter Margaret (Peggy) Pickett shares how Pinckney began experimenting with the crop at age 17 in 1739, then explains the history and techniques behind indigo dyeing. After the talk, try the process yourself by making an indigo tie-dye piece to take home. Each attendee receives one scarf supplied by the museum, and participants may bring one additional small cotton item such as a tea towel, apron, or shirt to dye. Tickets are $25 per person for ages 13 and up. The program takes place at the Coastal Discovery Museum.

HSF’s lecture series celebrating the people, stories, and places that shape Savannah features Elizabeth DuBose, executive director of The Ossabaw Island Foundation. Her presentation marks the centennial of the Torrey-West House on Ossabaw Island and examines the restoration of this 20,000 square foot home built between 1924 and 1926. The talk explores the logistical and preservation hurdles of caring for a landmark residence on a barrier island that can only be reached by boat, as well as the partnership between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and The Ossabaw Island Foundation to keep the site serving educational, cultural, and scientific purposes for years to come. The program is held at the Murray C. Perlman and Wayne C. Spear Preservation Center. A wine reception precedes the lecture. Admission is free for HSF members and $15 for nonmembers, and space is limited with reservations available through HSF’s event page.

At Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia in Savannah, volunteers assemble brown bag food packages that help local seniors make it through the month. This hands-on effort begins with a brief orientation before packing starts. Participants ages 12 to 15 may volunteer with a parent present, and those 16 and older may take part independently. Closed-toe shoes are required, and bringing a water bottle is encouraged. Friends, family members, and significant others are welcome to volunteer together.

A costumed paddle brings witches and warlocks to the water for a festive outing. Participants are encouraged to wear their most witchy or warlock attire and gather at the fishing dock and kayak launch beside the Whitehall boat ramp before setting off. The route travels through Factory Creek, passes under the Swing Bridge, and heads to Beaufort’s Chambers Waterfront Park, where Halloween activities are expected to draw plenty of onlookers. This paddle is rated 2 out of 5 in difficulty. Parking can fill up quickly, so plan ahead, and use Whitehall Park for launching if needed. After the paddle, those interested can meet at the Fillin' Station, a local dive bar, for a drink or something to eat. Remember safety essentials such as life jackets and whistles, bring water, and double check that fins and paddles are packed.

At the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center, the Savannah Chinese Association presents a community celebration of art, culture, and youth creativity. The festival highlights the 4th SCA Youth Arts Competition in instrumental music and in drawing and painting, with winners to be announced during a dedicated awards ceremony. Artwork from the competition will be on display alongside photography from the exhibition titled "Charming Savannah Seen Through Chinese Eyes." Inside the theater, the program features performances by selected young instrumental winners, SCA dance and vocal pieces, and additional appearances by talented children from the community. The experience also includes a Chongyang Festival observance with appreciation for seniors, prize drawings and giveaways, plus food and refreshments. Admission is free and open to the public. ARTS Southeast presents Figure/Ground, a summer group exhibition showcasing figurative works by its community of Artist Supporters. The exhibition focuses on the human figure, a subject that has linked artists across ages, and reflects on how we understand ourselves and others through themes of identity, authorship, and representation. Works span a wide range of mediums and approaches, from time-honored techniques to experimental methods, and from realism to abstraction, each offering a distinct perspective on the body and our shared humanity. The exhibition is installed in the ARTS Southeast Supporter Gallery. The group offers time to connect with people facing similar experiences and to receive support and learning. A licensed therapist facilitates every meeting and offers support and learning at each session. Participation is open to anyone who has lost a spouse, child, friend, or someone close to them, and there is no requirement about how recent the loss is. There is no cost to attend. New participants will be asked to sign a consent form at their first meeting, and the form can be reviewed in advance on the website.

The opening reception for Finding the Rhythm of Nature: Art That Makes You Smile highlights the work of John K. Crum. This naturalist-led hike covers roughly 1.5 miles through maritime forest and salt marsh, focusing on identifying scat and tracks. Participants meet at the Maritime Center. The cost is $10 per person plus fees and an RSVP is required. Wear long sleeves and pants and bring sunscreen, water, and bug spray. Closed toe shoes are required and will get muddy, and flip flops or sandals are not allowed. Binoculars are not provided, so bring your own. Savannah’s annual trick or treat outing for dogs returns for its 21st year, inviting costumed pups and their people to stroll between businesses from the Riverfront to the Starland District in search of festive fun and treats. Mark served four years in the Marine Corps and received a Purple Heart, then continued his service as a firefighter and paramedic with Southside Fire and EMS, Bryan County Emergency Services, Savannah Fire Rescue, and Parris Island Fire Rescue. He passed away on November 22, 2017 at the age of 33 and is remembered by his wife, Angie, and their children, Chase and Emerson. Baldwin, who also collaborates with Kristina Crisologo, crafts refined designs grounded in the heritage of Wimbee Creek Farm, a place once the homeland of the Wimbee people and cultivated for centuries, and together with her husband Gary she has grown the farm into a source of seasonal blooms for designers, wedding planners, and flower lovers throughout the Lowcountry, with a style that is abundant, artful, and closely tied to the land.

Add a coastal touch to holiday decorations during a relaxed, hands-on evening creating a 9-inch sea glass tree. Step-by-step instruction is provided by Camilla Pagliaroli, owner of Create with Camilla, so participants can craft a unique keepsake. All materials are included, and no prior experience is needed.
