An inaugural cancer benefit filled with games and giving spans two days. The schedule features a Scotch doubles pool tournament and a cornhole tournament, along with a silent auction that continues to add new items. The program features an opening announcement by Andrew Davis, a special update from CH2 Magazine on how to participate in a time capsule, behind-the-scenes tours, and insights into ongoing efforts. A kids' tattoo station and refreshments will be offered, along with up-close meet-and-greets with adoptable pets. On-site sign-ups will be available for a free pet vaccine clinic that provides core vaccines. This milestone gathering celebrates five decades of kindness, connection, and second chances for animals.

Imagination takes shape in clay at a creative summer ceramics camp where legends and original creatures come to life. Participants learn core techniques, including handbuilding, adding texture, sculpting fine details, and finishing their work with colorful glazes. Projects range from dragons, sea serpents, and mermaids to trolls, enchanted boxes, and toothy monster mouths, with plenty of room for personal invention. Friday activities focus on applying preferred underglazes, after which pieces are dried and fired to bisque, then glaze fired. Finished artwork will be available for pickup about four weeks after the camp concludes.

Thompson turns her lens toward the Lowcountry’s birdlife, freezing fleeting moments of feeding, courtship, nesting, and territorial displays, with images that emphasize personality and expression. The exhibition is free to attend, and an accompanying artist demonstration is also open to the public. The demonstration begins with a gallery walk at Art League Gallery and continues with a field session at Fish Haul Beach Park. Thompson is a self-taught Hilton Head Island photographer and an Exhibiting Member of Art League of Hilton Head. Her community work includes volunteering with the Hilton Head Island Sea Turtle Patrol, and her photography has earned multiple first-place awards with the Camera Club of Hilton Head, along with finalist recognition in the National Biennale for a photograph of a pair of great egrets. The collection ranges from bird silhouettes at sunrise and sunset to close views of nesting egrets and young alligators, offering a close-up perspective on the Lowcountry.

Town of Bluffton 5th Annual Independence Day Celebration

Bluffton celebrates Independence Day with its fifth annual community event at Martin Family and DuBois Parks. Expect carnival-style games with patriotic prizes while supplies last, bounce houses and a rock wall, and food and beverage concessions available for purchase. Entertainment features DJ Jeff “T-Bone” Taylor, live music by the Parris Island “Dirty Boots” Brass Band, Rick Hubbard’s Bubble Stuff Show, and the National Anthem performed by a local Bluffton student. A fireworks display will launch from a barge on the May River and can be viewed from Oyster Factory and Wright Family Parks. Because the barge’s position may shift due to conditions, attendees may need to adjust their seating to enjoy the best view.

Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga

Experience stand up paddleboard yoga on the May River, offered in partnership with Flow Water Sports, launching from Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. The session starts with a paddling lesson, followed by an easy paddle to the practice area, yoga on the water, and a return to the dock. Expect a mix of seated, reclined, and standing poses that invite a fresh take on balance. Wear comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and bug spray. Bring a water bottle, and consider leaving a towel in the car for after class since it is best to bring as few items as possible. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start. The fee is $60 per person and includes all rental equipment, the paddle lesson, and the class, and no prior paddling experience is required. Those bringing their own board and gear can use code PADDLE for a $25 discount. Enrollment is limited to six participants and advance registration is required, with registration closing 24 hours before the start. A minimum of three participants is needed, and if that minimum is not met, rescheduling or a refund will be offered. Classes are weather dependent and may be canceled due to wind or storms, in which case a reschedule option or full refund will be provided.
