During his residency at Palmetto Bluff he leads experiences focused on observing, sketching, and painting coastal landscapes and wildlife.

Author and living history presenter Margaret (Peggy) Pickett shares how Pinckney began experimenting with the crop at age 17 in 1739, then explains the history and techniques behind indigo dyeing. After the talk, try the process yourself by making an indigo tie-dye piece to take home. Each attendee receives one scarf supplied by the museum, and participants may bring one additional small cotton item such as a tea towel, apron, or shirt to dye. Tickets are $25 per person for ages 13 and up. The program takes place at the Coastal Discovery Museum.

Stroller Strides with FIT4MOM Bluffton-Hilton Head is a full body workout designed for moms at any fitness level. A costumed paddle brings witches and warlocks to the water for a festive outing. Participants are encouraged to wear their most witchy or warlock attire and gather at the fishing dock and kayak launch beside the Whitehall boat ramp before setting off. The route travels through Factory Creek, passes under the Swing Bridge, and heads to Beaufort’s Chambers Waterfront Park, where Halloween activities are expected to draw plenty of onlookers. This paddle is rated 2 out of 5 in difficulty. Parking can fill up quickly, so plan ahead, and use Whitehall Park for launching if needed. A hands-on birds workshop guides participants from building an armature to painting fine details to complete a papier-mâché bird, with a relaxed pace and a lunch break that provides drying time. Another session focuses on creating with tools found outdoors, encouraging experimentation with sticks, leaves, acorns, and other natural materials to explore texture and mark making. The final workshop invites families to design and craft playful papier-mâché ornaments, offering an easygoing, all-ages setting where children and adults can create together. Rachel Gardner transitioned from painting to sculpture after earning her BFA and MFA, developing a practice that blends painterly precision with dimensional form. She teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels and will guide participants through hands-on explorations of papier-mâché, creative form, and using natural tools for ink-based artwork.

Meet at the kayak launch between the Fillin' Station and Whitehall Boat Landing. Expect plenty of effort alongside plenty of fun as a warmup for turkey day. FLOW Gallery + Workshop hosts an Artist in Residence program with floral designer Maria Baldwin of Wimbee Creek Farm, beginning with a welcome reception featuring samples of her farm-grown work that show how she blends color and texture into luxurious arrangements. The program continues with hands-on sessions that include a winter wreath workshop covering layering, shaping, finishing, and ways to keep the design fresh through the season, an evergreen garland class using fresh greenery and colorful accents from her gardens to create a custom chain suited for a mantel or a table display, and a seasonal centerpiece workshop that explores form, balance, and color harmony, along with care techniques for long-lasting beauty. Baldwin, who also collaborates with Kristina Crisologo, crafts refined designs grounded in the heritage of Wimbee Creek Farm, a place once the homeland of the Wimbee people and cultivated for centuries, and together with her husband Gary she has grown the farm into a source of seasonal blooms for designers, wedding planners, and flower lovers throughout the Lowcountry, with a style that is abundant, artful, and closely tied to the land.

Coosaw Plantation hosts the season opening meet for Salt Marsh Hounds. The gathering starts with a stirrup cup, followed by the Blessing of the Hounds and the dedication of St. Hubert Medals. Afterward, participants head out behind the huntsman and a pack of American foxhounds. Riders take to the saddle, and guests may follow along in the Tally-Ho Wagons. Tickets will be available for purchase.
