Explore jewelry making and silversmithing in a small, hands-on class led by Rene Venegas, a 16th generation silversmith who has taught at Weber State for 15 years and is a recipient of the Ogden City Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art. Beginners and experienced makers are welcome, and the format supports both one-time projects and ongoing skill building. Registration includes use of studio tools and equipment, while metals and stones are purchased separately or brought from home. One-session projects can include a silver band or ring, a ring with a cabochon stone, simple earrings, a copper or silver bracelet with or without a cabochon, or a simple pendant with or without a cabochon. Class size is limited to about four to five participants to allow plenty of one-on-one instruction. Tuition is 40 dollars for each two hour class, or three classes for 100 dollars. Although designed for adults, mature teens and pre-teens may participate. Private classes and parties are available. Payment can be made in person or online, and a three class punch pass is available; pay for the current session and the remaining sessions will be prorated at class. Cancellations more than seven days in advance receive a full refund minus a five dollar fee, and there are no refunds within seven days of the start. If registering on a phone is difficult, rotating the device can help, and computers often work best. The class takes place at The Local Artisan Collective.

Curious about working with molten glass? This hands-on lampworking experience introduces the basics of heating and shaping borosilicate glass, often called Pyrex, using a propane and oxygen torch. Safety is emphasized throughout, and all materials and equipment are provided. Over the course of three hours, you will create your own glass marbles, making at least two basic pieces, with the possibility of more if time allows. Individual results will vary. Finished pieces are fired to anneal and strengthen them and will be ready for pickup the following business day.

Expect to complete a minimum of two simple pieces, with the chance to make more as time allows. Results will vary by participant. Finished work is kiln annealed to strengthen the glass, so pieces will be ready for pickup on the next business day.

Warrior Revival, a 501c3 nonprofit serving Utah’s military community, is partnering with Steve’s Black Sabbath BBQ to foster connection through shared meals and conversation. On the last Sunday of each month, veterans affiliated with Warrior Revival can receive a dining discount there. To start things off, Warrior Revival will provide appetizers to help spark discussion, and Alpha Coffee is donating the coffee.
