Hollow Folk follows grad student Ethan Ray on the night shift at the aging Holloway mountain resort, where reddish brown lights wash across the Appalachian sky, fierce winds move the trees without a sound, and owl gargoyles seem to stir. At 3 a.m., every clock stops. Trapped with coworkers Kal and Teresa, Ethan begins to realize the hotel is more than an old building, and something ancient has awakened. To get out, they must uncover the Holloway’s secrets as feelings grow between Ethan and Teresa, while shared visions warn that someone inside cannot be trusted. An Evening of Story

    Shepherdstown · Robert C. Byrd Center , 213 N King St

A world premiere storytelling program from 2026 Commission Recipient Linda Schuyler Ford arrives at the Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education. Raised amid the folklore of the Hudson Valley and inspired by Washington Irving, Linda has devoted her life to the spoken arts. She leads transformational retreats for women, coaches elder storytellers in reclaiming their voices, and brings narrative craft to professional development, with training delivered for organizations such as the UAW, CareerSource Florida, and Community of Hope. Her recent creative interests have turned toward ghost tales, complex literature, and hidden histories of women. Her performances have reached audiences in museums, libraries, churches, festivals, and cemeteries across the country. A memorable milestone came when she told The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on the steps of Washington Irving’s gravesite for 200 members of the International Jane Austen Society, a tribute to the writer who first fueled her imagination. The evening debuts A Woman's Issue: Madame Restell Speaks, a first-person portrait of the famed Fifth Avenue abortionist. Draped in luxury, Restell emerges as a savvy businesswoman who offered "female health services" to the very social circles that condemned her. The story follows her clashes with Anthony Comstock and other moral reformers over control of women’s bodies, revealing the steep costs of privacy, the contradictions of the period, and the personal and professional battles she faced. The tale closes with the unsettling echo that the concerns of the 1860s still reverberate today. In-person general admission is $20, with a $10 rate for students with ID, available at the door. Livestream access is $20 per person or $10 for students and can be purchased through the organizer’s tickets page.

    2026 Miriam's Kitchen 5k/10k

Washington · Fletcher's Boathouse, 4940 Canal Rd NW

Runners and walkers take on 5k and 10k distances at the fifth annual Run 4 MK, presented with Bishop’s Events to benefit Miriam’s Kitchen and its work to end chronic and veteran homelessness in Washington, DC. A 500 meter dash is also offered. Participants can take part in person or virtually. The event pays tribute to Waldon Adams, a former guest, community leader, and dedicated runner who completed more than 80 races, including 15 marathons, and who helped others find safe and stable housing. The timing aligns with Veterans Day observances and the start of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, underscoring the mission behind the run. Courses follow an out and back format on the C&O Canal path. The 5k uses a flat, lightly graveled trail with minimal elevation change, and the 10k is also out and back. On-course support includes one water stop on the 5k near mile 1.55 and three on the 10k near miles 1.55, 3.1, and 4.65, with sports drink available at some stations. Finishers receive a medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing, and live results with runner tracking are provided. Points from this race count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Fall Series. The Back of the Pack Series is designed for participants who run at higher average paces so they can compete for series points with peers. Post-race recognition includes awards for the top three men and women overall, plus first and second place in age groups 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Staff photos are shared on social media after the event. Packet pickup takes place on site, and there is no on-site registration on race day. Restrooms are located near the registration area and the start and finish. This is an all-weather event and may be adjusted for safety if conditions require it. The race is set within an area regularly served by Miriam’s Kitchen’s Outreach Team, offering a meaningful connection to the community and a tangible way to support housing justice. Unauthorized participation is not permitted in order to protect runner safety and race resources.

Harpers Ferry · 171 Shoreline Dr

Experience a scenic 5k, 10k, and half marathon on a brand new course for Bishop’s Events in Historic Harpers Ferry. Earn points toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Fall Series. A virtual option is available for anyone who cannot attend in person. Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and chip timing. Each distance has a separate start. The half marathon carries a 3 hour 15 minute time limit, and runners expecting to finish near that window can arrange an earlier start with the organizer so all paces are supported. Course maps will be shared when available. Live results will be accessible on site via QR code, and final results with series points will be posted by the organizer after the race. Awards recognize the top three men and women overall, along with age group honors, and overall winners do not also receive age group awards. Event photos captured by staff will be shared on the organizer’s social channels, and a weekly social media challenge highlights a favorite post from race weekend with a discount toward a future race. Packet pickup takes place at the event, and arriving about an hour before your start is recommended for check-in. There is no race day on-site registration. Volunteers help with water stations, course marshaling, and finish line support, and are asked to arrive about an hour before the first start. The race starts and finishes in Historic Harpers Ferry, and paid parking is available. This event is planned rain or shine, and any schedule changes or cancellations will be communicated by the organizer.
