Local artist Cyndi Maitri leads a hands-on needle felting workshop welcoming complete beginners through experienced makers. Participants will learn to use wool and dry felting techniques on a felt backing to create one or more finished pieces. Newcomers receive step-by-step instruction and can complete a frame-ready wool painting, while intermediate and advanced students can delve into more detailed projects with guidance as needed. All materials are provided, including high quality locally sourced wool, and additional supplies will be available to purchase for anyone who wants to continue at home. The cost is $50 for non-members or $40 for members, plus a $10 supplies fee paid directly to the instructor, which covers wool. Leave with a unique felted artwork ready to display.

The Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation presents its annual Blues, Brews and BBQ at St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall, a nationally recognized historic site that once served as a social hub for New Town, a Black neighborhood during segregation. Members of the Hall Committee offer programs like this to honor the kinds of gatherings that historically took place in the building and in the former New Town community. Beer and wine, barbecue, and sweet treats will be available for purchase from Blue Ridge Beverage and Kirk’s Famous BBQ. The New River Blues Society will be on site with information and event support. Seating is limited, so bringing chairs is encouraged. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds support the exhibit redesign at St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall, ahead of a planned grand reopening. Live performances feature The JoJo Stockton Project, Seedpicker, and Lady D and Mi$$ion. Support for the event includes the National Bank of Blacksburg as stage sponsor, Paul Farrier as music sponsor, and additional backing from Julia and Chris Marin.

Open to people of all abilities, this gathering offers complimentary food and plenty of summer fun at the splash pad and inclusive playground. The Glen Shelton Band brings live music to OTF with a concert presented with support from Feeding Southwest Virginia and Berkshire Hathaway.
