    Babes In Canyon and more

Spanish Ballroom, 565 Broadway, Tacoma · verified Oct 2
    See details

McMenamins presents an evening at the Spanish Ballroom with Babes In Canyon, Anna Smyrk, and Shelby Natasha. Open to all ages, with advance tickets at $20 and day-of admission at $25. Babes In Canyon blends synth folk, moody pop, club rhythms, and layered harmonies into a lush, contemporary sound that grew out of a spontaneous writing session during a winter storm. Songwriters Nathan and Sophia Hamer shape immersive arrangements that have earned attention from Under The Radar, Magnet, and Big Takeover, and Atwood Magazine has praised their high-energy live looping of keys, beats, and percussion. Their debut album, The New Loud, arrived in the fall of 2025 and showcases a genre-crossing, carefully crafted approach. Anna Smyrk, a singer and songwriter from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), delivers anthemic indie songs that fuse candid lyrics with dynamic, hook-forward arrangements. Her first full-length album is out now, exploring the tension of holding joy and pain at once. The release debuted at number 20 on US specialty radio and number 20 on the ARIA Australian albums chart, with multiple plays on BBC Radio. It highlights driving indie rock, intimate alt-folk, and vocals Rolling Stone has called astonishing. Seattle’s Shelby Natasha is an alt-folk songwriter and guzheng player, weaving R&B-influenced Chinese folk with modern production. Inspired by an upbringing between China and the Pacific Northwest, her sound pairs ethereal vocals, the guzheng, and lo-fi textures for a mix that is both atmospheric and groove driven. She has appeared at Oregon Country Fair, NAMM, Any Patch of Grass, Belltown Bloom, Imagine Festival, Portland Folk Festival, and Northwest Folklife, and has supported East Forest, Simrit, and Yaima.

    Tanner Laws Band and more

Spanish Ballroom, 565 Broadway, Tacoma · verified Oct 9
    See details

McMenamins presents a night at the Spanish Ballroom featuring the Tanner Laws Band with Cody Bartels. This all ages show offers tickets at $14.99 in advance and $19.99 on the day of the event. Raised in the mountains of western Montana, singer and songwriter Tanner Laws drew on a life of steep peaks, wide valleys, rodeos, rivers, and long winters. He studied civil engineering at Montana Tech, then chose to pursue music full time. After years of honing his songs in bars, dance halls, and rodeos around his home state, he formed the Tanner Laws Band in 2024. The group pairs jazz-schooled bass and drums from the University of Montana with a software engineer on electric guitar and pedal steel, a standout fiddler, and Laws at the mic with a voice shaped by open country. Their sound leans into country and folk storytelling, with nods to Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, and the Turnpike Troubadours, putting pedal steel and fiddle up front, a dance-ready groove underneath, and lyrics grounded in lived experience. In their debut year they earned the title of Missoula’s Best New Band. They quickly took to the road, opening for artists such as the Turnpike Troubadours, Clint Black, Colby Acuff, Gary Allan, Rodney Atkins, Corey Kent, Braxton Keith, Dustin Lynch, and Sam Barber. They have also received Northwest CMA honors for Songwriter of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Favorite Local Solo Artist, and have performed at the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale, the Calgary Stampede, numerous rodeos and county fairs, and listening rooms that stretch from Montana to Atlanta. Cody Bartels also performs.
