Items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and collection wraps up once trucks reach capacity. This teen driving school centers on practical, behind-the-wheel learning in real traffic scenarios. Students practice in their own cars to understand how their vehicles behave near the limits and how to stay in control. The program pairs each participant with a trained in-car instructor and also includes classroom instruction. It is intended to build skills that go beyond standard driver education, giving new drivers the tools and experience to become safer and more attentive on the road.

Teen drivers spend a full day building practical skills behind the wheel and in the classroom with the Tire Rack Street Survival program. Across three classroom sessions totaling about two hours, students explore proper seating and hand positions, mirror setup, how tire contact patches work, the basics of weight transfer, using long range vision, and staying aware while minimizing distractions such as radios, phones, or extra passengers. The rest of the day takes place in each student’s own car with an in-car coach. On course, they practice wet skid control on a skid pad, quick lane changes for collision avoidance, threshold braking with ABS, and a slalom that highlights weight transfer. When conditions allow, additional drills include two wheels off recovery and a tailgating awareness exercise. Some locations also stage a semi truck visibility demonstration by parking cars around the rig and having participants sit in the cab to reveal blind spots. An air bag may be deployed as part of a safety lesson on hand placement. Parents and guardians are welcome to spend the day, sit in on classroom sessions, and speak with instructors, who are available to answer questions about what students are experiencing. Lunch is provided for students, parents, and volunteers, and the course fee is $175.
