Enjoy free outdoor movies at Seattle Center this summer, spread out on the gently sloped Mural Amphitheatre lawn beneath the Space Needle with a 40 foot screen lighting up the night. The series showcases beloved films, from classics to contemporary favorites, and is designed for all ages, creating an open air cinema experience that feels special to this setting. Each screening begins with a short created by alumni of the University of Washington Department of Film & Video Production and students at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University. This screening features Hamilton, rated PG-13 with a 2 hour 40 minute runtime. The filmed production reimagines the life of Alexander Hamilton through a score that fuses hip hop, jazz, R&B, and show tunes, marking a milestone in modern theater and influencing culture, politics, and education. Shot at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016, it places viewers close to the energy of the original stage performance. Short film selections are to be announced. New Skater Summer Camp welcomes beginners who want to build confidence and skills on quad skates in a supportive setting. Registration is open, and the fee is $425 per skater. Two snacks are provided daily, and participants should bring their own lunch and a reusable water bottle. Full safety gear is required whenever participants are on skates. This includes quad skates with four wheels, a properly fitted helmet suitable for roller derby, multi-sport, hockey, or skateboarding, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and a mouth guard. Inline skates are not permitted. Camp programming includes league assessments, with a make-up assessment day available. Financial aid is offered through the registration form. Cancellations completed by the stated deadline are eligible for a full refund minus a 5 percent processing fee, with no refunds available after that. A summer-long pinball series unfolds across two Alki arcades, Gary's Place and West Seattle Arcade. Both rooms run at the same time and players walk between them to choose their games, keeping the action moving from one stop on the beach to the other. Each night features head-to-head matchups in which participants select the machine at either location. Play can go up to five rounds with two games per round. Winning a single game earns one point, sweeping both in a round is worth three. Extra balls are limited to thirty seconds. The same machine cannot be chosen twice in a night, and a machine already in use cannot be selected. The top three competitors receive payouts at the end of the night. Points accumulate throughout the season and only the five best nights count toward the standings, so missing a week is not a setback. The top half of the standings qualifies for the Series Finals, and the finals prize pool grows by five dollars per player each week. Entry is five dollars per night and all ages are welcome. New players to competitive pinball will find the format friendly and easy to step into, and participation can begin in any week of the series.
