New Life Food Pantry provides free groceries for anyone in need. Created with UW–Madison students in mind, this well-being concert offers a restorative hour focused on relaxation and mindfulness. The setting is calm so attendees can settle into a live musical experience that supports self-care. Sit in a chair or lie on the floor with cushions and pillows available. A host will gently guide the audience with prompts to set an intention, relax the shoulders, breathe slowly, and stay present. The performance features Somi, who made history as the first African woman nominated for a Grammy in a jazz category, joined by her band to share music that balances energy with ease, blending joy with comfort.

A yoga session is followed by a trail run at the UW-Madison Arboretum. The group meets near the Visitor Center for yoga, then heads out together for a run covering roughly 5.5 to 6.5 miles. Learn the art of chainmaille while creating a bracelet in this hands-on class. The fee is $10 and includes enough materials for one bracelet. You can pay in cash at the start of class or via PayPal. A community song circle gathers for group singing with the Rise Up Singing and Rise Again songbooks, drawing from a collection of 2,400 folk and traditional songs from the past hundred years. Singers and acoustic players of any experience level can take part as much or as little as they like. Bring guitars, mandolins, banjos, fiddles, or accordions, and make use of the standup bass along with guitars and ukuleles available on site. The songbooks provide chords to support accompaniment, though they do not include melody lines. The gathering takes place at Muso Madison in Madison, Wisconsin.

North Mississippi Allstars perform at Atwood Music Hall in Madison, presenting the sound they call Modern Mississippi Music. Formed in 1996 by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, the group began as a flexible gathering of North Mississippi players, shaped by the influence of their father Jim Dickinson and community mentors including RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner, and Fred McDowell. A communitywide house decorating contest invites residents to transform their homes into candy themed stops in blue and yellow as judges tour to spot the sweetest displays of Comet spirit. Festivities wrap up with a 2 hour early release for DDSD students, a Homecoming parade, a free pig roast tailgate, the opening of stadium gates with concessions and the spirit store, a veteran’s recognition, the football game against Whitewater, and a postgame fireworks show.

Dr. Ian Hutchinson, Professor Emeritus of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a leading plasma physicist, offers a free talk as the third annual Dallas A. Willard Lecture presented by the Lumen Center. Drawing on his longstanding critique of scientism, he examines how knowledge and love of God can be understood in a scientific and technological age. The lecture calls the university community to reflect on the relationship between Christianity, science, and the current cultural landscape. It considers the Christian tradition’s layered view of knowing, with love at the summit, and why that vision has dimmed in a culture steeped in science. The talk also addresses the rising influence of artificial intelligence, often shaped by assumptions consistent with scientism, and asks what a faithful Christian response should be today. Funk fusion band Wurk teams with the DB Orchestra to launch The WURKestra at The Barrymore Theatre in Madison. Created in collaboration with Heid Music and the Madison Area Music Association, this debut pairs Wurk’s genre-blending energy with a 17-piece big band featuring trumpets, trombones, saxophones, percussion, and sousaphone. The program highlights new arrangements of Wurk originals, inventive takes on familiar songs, and pieces written specifically for this ensemble. Wurk, a six-piece formed in 2016 and a two-time MAMA Artist of the Year, draws from funk, progressive rock, pop, and jam influences, while the DB Orchestra blends jazz swing, doo-wop, Dixieland, and rock and roll under the direction of Andy Kerber.
