Mineral Point, Wisconsin, long regarded as a cornerstone of Cornish heritage in North America, will host the 21st Gathering of the Cornish Cousins, presented by the Cornish American Heritage Society. This edition centers on Cornish identity across the past, present, and future. Set within the Driftless Area, Mineral Point welcomed Cornish miners in the mid-1800s to develop its lead industry, and that history has evolved into a community recognized for artisans and agriculture. The Gathering takes place ahead of the city’s Cornish Festival. Registration includes event space at the Quality Inn in Mineral Point, a welcome packet, a keepsake from the 21st Gathering, a keynote with additional speakers, a luncheon, a pasty dinner, and access to local site tours. A discounted room block is available at the Mineral Point Quality Inn under Cornish Gathering, and additional nearby lodging options may fill quickly due to the concurrent festival. Friends and Adaptive Restoration host a prairie work party at Blue Mound State Park. Volunteers meet at the Friends Shelter, then carpool to the project location. Comedian Carl Giannetto returns to Cork Down Saloon. He started stand-up at 14 and, while still in high school, went live on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show during class. He became the youngest winner of Bob Zany’s Fix The Joke contest and has opened for Zany and other top touring comics multiple times. He now performs across the country in bars, clubs, theaters and even porta potties.

Along the way, hear about Frank Lloyd Wright’s ties to the Driftless region and how that relationship shaped a tradition at Taliesin of learning within the natural landscape. Phoebe Point Trail is part of the Driftless Area Land Conservancy’s ongoing effort to build a 100 mile Driftless Trail, so each step supports a living regional project. This experience welcomes all skill levels, and those who prefer not to hike the full loop can still participate in the initial discussion, which covers core topics and many of the plants likely to be seen on the path. Instruction and a guided hike are included. The price is $35. The class may be canceled if fewer than seven participants are registered one week in advance. Foraging on Phoebe Point Trail without express permission from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is not allowed, and participants are asked to follow guide instructions to minimize environmental impact. Abbie grew up on a small farm in the Driftless, has long been a gardener and forager, earned a Geography and Environmental Science degree from UW Platteville, worked extensively in the farm to table movement both on farms and in kitchens, and serves as the Kitchen Gardener at Taliesin Preservation.
