The shorter option is about 40 miles with three farm visits, while the longer route covers roughly 50 miles with four stops. The seventh MSCC points event of the season takes place at Madison International Speedway. Drivers with any level of experience are welcome, and many seasoned autocrossers are happy to offer coaching tips. Violinist, vocalist, and composer L. Shankar has reshaped the sound of Indian classical music for audiences around the world. Raised in Madras in a family of musicians led by his father, the noted Carnatic singer and violinist V. Lakshminarayana, he began vocal study as a toddler and gave his first solo performance at age seven. He later earned a doctorate in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University, where connections with boundary-pushing jazz artists such as Ornette Coleman and John McLaughlin helped broaden his musical reach. An innovator as well as a virtuoso, Shankar created the double violin, a stereophonic double-neck electric instrument first heard in 1981 on Phil Collins’ Face Value and on his own Who’s to Know. His discography spans more than 20 albums and collaborations with artists including Yoko Ono, Talking Heads, PIL, Echo and The Bunnyman, and Peter Gabriel. He co-wrote the Grammy-nominated soundtrack Passion for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. Among his early supporters was Frank Zappa, who brought him into his band, released Shankar’s work on his label, and produced an early crossover recording. Shankar’s albums on ECM are regarded as benchmark recordings of Indian classical music and international jazz collaborations, and his work often blends Hindustani rhythms with Carnatic traditions. He continues to tour widely and release new music, including the world music albums Full Moon and Over the Stars in 2024 and the pop-rock album Answers in 2025. This rare Wisconsin appearance features original Indian classical ragas and compositions alongside a selection of classic Shakti pieces. Shankar performs on double violin and vocals, joined by an all-star percussion duo. Selvaganesh Vinayakram, a two-time Grammy Award winning member of Shakti and son of original member Vikku Vinayakram, performs on mridangam, kanjira, and konakkol. Tabla is performed by Amit Kavthekar, a longtime student of Zakir Hussain and Ustad Alla Rakha, recognized among the leading tabla players of his generation and heard with artists ranging from Amjad Ali Khan to Al Di Meola.

Competitive puzzlers can take part in a seven week jigsaw puzzle league at Noble Knight Games that highlights quick solving, smart strategy, and accuracy. The open competitive division features 500 piece challenges and is geared toward seasoned teams that can usually complete one in under 100 minutes. Teams consist of two players who stay together for the entire season. Each week brings a new puzzle drawn from a pool of six, and timed results build toward overall standings. If a team misses a session, only its best five results are counted. The final week concludes with official rankings, door prize drawings, and a chance to try puzzle chess or open puzzling. All league puzzles are added to the prize pool. Capacity is limited to six to eight teams. The cost is $70 per team, which comes out to $5 per person each week.

Hosted at Holy Wisdom Monastery, this immersive workshop introduces core shamanic practices that can be integrated into daily life for personal healing, growth, empowerment, and a deeper sense of the interconnectedness of all life. It also serves as the required first step for Jessica’s Shamanic Practitioner training, with further details to be announced. Tuition is $399 and includes lunch on both days. Attendance for the full duration of both days is required. Personal healing is built into the experience, so participants are encouraged to allow extra time outside of class for integration. Hosted by Bereaved Together and facilitated by Michelle Kullmann, this in-person BRAVE Moves gathering in the Madison area offers a grief-informed movement space for mothers grieving a child, from pregnancy loss to adult child loss. The November experience features foam rolling and therapy balls at Harbor Wellness Studio, focusing on easing tightness and trigger points that can hold stress and grief. Participants are guided to move slowly and stay within personal comfort levels, with the intention of fostering a sense of ease and improved mobility. Each registration includes a Bereaved Together journal, light refreshments, a guided movement and wellness experience, connection with other bereaved mothers, and a care package to take home. Registration is required and capacity is limited. After attending, registrants may choose to have the fee refunded, apply it to a future session, or donate it back to support the program for another grieving mom.

An in-person community conversation at Natural Path Sanctuary explores cemetery guidelines that support earth-friendly, family and community centered burial practices. The sanctuary is dedicated to natural burial with minimal environmental impact and to preserving the beauty of the land. Discussion will cover embalming, burial vaults and liners, biodegradable containers and coverings, care of cremated remains, grave markers, planting of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees, floral tributes and decorations, and the size of memorial gatherings. These guidelines are guided by a commitment to keep those laid to rest connected to the natural cycle among trees and plants.
