    Winestyles October 2026 Book Club

WineStyles Shoppes at Prairie Lakes, Sun Prairie · verified Sep 30
    See details

A book club at WineStyles Shoppes at Prairie Lakes focuses on The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. The novel envisions Great Britain around 1985, where time travel is commonplace, cloning has brought back dodos as household companions, and books are treated with fierce devotion. Baconians argue that Francis Bacon wrote Shakespeare, Surrealists and Impressionists clash in the streets, and the police face the odd challenge of countless men named John Milton. In this world, the criminal Acheron Hades steals the original Martin Chuzzlewit and deletes a minor character from every copy, then sets his sights on Jane Eyre. Thursday Next, a renowned literary detective with the Special Operatives who drives a Porsche, uses her uncle Mycroft’s Prose Portal to step into Bronte’s classic and attempt a rescue. As interlopers stir up trouble in Thornfield and paths cross with Jane, Rochester, and Miss Fairfax, the stakes extend to lingering questions about the Crimean War and the pesky black holes that occasionally pull things into a time space void. Discussion centers on this suspenseful, witty caper and the distinctive fictional universe it opens.

Amélie Farren crafts intimate alt-folk and alt-pop she began writing at twelve and continues at eighteen, drawing listeners into sharply observed moments that feel familiar yet previously unspoken. Her early track suffering has surpassed 24 million streams, and Unsweetened Lemonade (2024) has exceeded 70 million while connecting with audiences across the US, UK, Europe, Asia, and South America. Her debut album Airheaded, produced in LA by Michael Keenan, explores obsession, complicated attachment, and the mirrored roles of those who cause harm and those who receive it. Lilith Max brings fantasy-tinged folk that weaves knights, myth, and magic into richly told songs with room for imagination. Rabbitology, the creation of Nat Timmerman, opens a burrowing, offbeat realm of eclectic soundscapes and memoir-shaped, fantastical sonic short stories, traced by the footprints of a three-legged rabbit. Wayne Hancock

Shank Hall, 1434 N Farwell Ave, Milwaukee · verified Oct 2
    See details

Wayne The Train Hancock fires up a juke joint swing sound that blends honky-tonk, western swing, blues, Texas rockabilly, and big band, a style he has been refining since the 1995 album Thunderstorms and Neon Signs. Performing without a drummer yet losing none of the drive, he commands the stage with lean arrangements that still hit hard. Steeped in tradition without feeling like a throwback, his shows channel the crackle of a vintage jukebox and the pulse of pure hillbilly boogie. Constantly on the road, he pairs an unmistakable voice with hard-charging songs that can turn any room into a dance floor and even inspire at-home two-stepping. True to his no-frills ethos, he stands apart from glossy trends in mainstream country. Notably, one of his CDs even flew on a space shuttle.

Three Holy Women Catholic Parish, Milwaukee · verified Sep 27
    See details

Explore Milwaukee’s Lower East Side on a guided journey that looks beyond Brady Street’s storefronts to the people and moments that shaped it. Polish immigrants laid the groundwork here, centering community life around St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, completed in 1886, and popularizing the Milwaukee Polish Flat in the neighborhoods north of Brady. A later wave of Italian families converted many commercial buildings into lasting neighborhood businesses, including Glorioso’s Italian Market, founded in 1946, and Peter Sciortino’s Bakery, which opened in 1947. The tour also explores the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s and traces how the street has evolved in recent years. Expect a blend of neighborhood history, cultural context, and on-the-street sights along this prominent urban corridor. Scheduling depends on guide availability.

An advanced, hands-on blanket workshop takes place at Tan-A-Latte, created for returning students who have completed a prior session with the instructor. Patience is important because everyone will be working on different projects while receiving one-on-one guidance. Being mostly comfortable working independently and with the side loop is preferred, and the instructor will assist with starting, finishing, and color changes. Drinks from the venue are available to enjoy while creating. Attendance is capped at eight to allow for individual instruction. Projects focus on larger lap blankets, and each registration includes eight skeins of yarn. The session is planned for four hours, though many participants may need less time. An email to select colors will be sent about four weeks before the workshop. Thirteen designs are offered with varying prices and details. Choices include Large Lap Basic Knit in up to three colors for 110 dollars, Fall Rainbow for 120 dollars, Neon Rainbow for 120 dollars, Watermelon for 130 dollars that calls for a tighter knit to achieve the seed effect, Mini Hearts in either stripe or random styles for 130 dollars with heart colors chosen from on-hand options and a tighter knit recommended, Herringbone or Broken Herringbone for 130 dollars with an approximate size around 50 by 48 inches, Seed Stitch for 130 dollars, Broken Rib Stitch for 130 dollars, Santa Suit and Elf Suit for 140 dollars that are more detailed with extra color changes and require a firm knit, and America for 120 dollars. Most designs use about eight skeins, and finished dimensions are approximate and will vary with loop size and tension. Those who prefer not to wait for individual help may wish to schedule a private workshop.

Splash Martini Bar welcomes the return of MR. E for an evening of rock, pop and Americana that blends well-known covers with original songs. Eric Wennerstrand, also known as Mr. E, will handle guitar and vocals. He began studying flamenco at the age of eight, a foundation that gives his playing a percussive, driving and showy character. Early exposure to a wide range of classical and modern music, along with college-level study of music theory, shaped a broad stylistic approach that comes through in a varied setlist. The Rhythm Authority has described his approach as epic, meaning bold, expansive in scope and thoughtfully composed, paired with expressive performances and skilled guitar work.

    Quiet Silence 31 miler & 17.5 miler.

191 Sandy Beach Rd, Lake Mills · verified Sep 27
    See details

Now in its third year, this nighttime out and back run follows the flat, crushed gravel of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, starting at Rotary Park in Lake Mills. Participants can choose between approximately 16 miles and 31 miles, with turnarounds at Deerfield Community Park in Deerfield for the shorter distance and at the western terminus of the trail in Cottage Grove for the longer distance. Conditions on the trail can range from dry and clear to snowy and churned up, so expect a test of both body and mind on a chilly night. The 16 miler offers partial aid at its turnaround with snacks and drinks. The 31 miler offers full aid at its turnaround with hot food, snacks, drinks, chairs, and heaters. Athletes may place a drop bag at the 16 mile turnaround, which the longer distance will pass twice. Crew may assist 31 milers at their turnaround, but drop bags there must be managed by the athlete. Shuttle service is provided back from the 16 mile turnaround, but not from the 31 mile turnaround due to limited volunteers after midnight and the distance from the start and finish. No outside crew support is permitted except at aid stations, and pacers are not allowed for either distance. Mandatory gear checks will be conducted for reflective vests and a rear facing red blinking safety light in accordance with DNR rules. Runners will be verbally checked in and out at turnarounds, and live tracking will not be provided. Cutoffs are 4.5 hours for the 16 miler at just under 17 minutes per mile, and 9 hours for the 31 miler at 17 minutes per mile. The event name is a reminder to keep noise down out of respect for the sleeping communities along the route late at night and into the early morning. Registration opens soon and is capped at 100 total athletes.
