The Minnesota Bat Festival is a free celebration of bats during International Bat Week, highlighting the more than 1,400 species found around the world and focusing on the species that live in Minnesota and the important roles they play in our ecosystems. The event features live Minnesota bats, information on bat houses with giveaways, insights into white-nose syndrome and ongoing research, and a walk-through replica bat cave where participants can search for hidden bats. Visitors can learn how and why biologists track bat movements, explore bat survey technologies, try bat-themed crafts, and test their knowledge with bat trivia for a chance to win a prize. Families will find activities for all ages, including a chance for kids to become a Junior Bat Scientist, plus tips on gardening for bats paired with a tree giveaway and food trucks on site. Hosted by the Minnesota/Wisconsin Ecological Services Field Office and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the festival is presented in collaboration with the Minnesota DNR Nongame Wildlife Program, Minnesota Biological Survey, Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park, Hennepin County Environment and Energy Program, the University of Minnesota, The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota, The Minnesota Department of Health, The Bell Museum, Minnesota Valley Refuge Friends, North Lakeland Discovery Center, and Dakota County Parks and Trails.

A family-friendly trunk-or-treat features decorated car trunks and businesses, creating a playful, spooky setting for costumed kids. Attendees can wear their favorite costumes, from ghosts and witches to superheroes and princesses, and enjoy festive fun for all ages.

An annual Trunk or Treat takes over the parking lot, inviting attendees to wear costumes and deck out their vehicle trunks to share candy. Festivities continue as long as the candy holds out. Prizes will be awarded for costumes and decorated cars. The event is open to the public as well as members.
