    Community members gather for a suicide awareness walk focused on connection, hope, and raising funds for prevention programs in Polk County. It is a time to remember loved ones and to support one another while strengthening local resources. Keynote speaker Dawn M. Rogers, an author, emcee, speaker, and advocate, shares a message shaped by her experience after the loss of her daughter, Olivia. She speaks with honesty and encouragement about grief, resilience, and the possibility of healing so no one feels alone. The morning starts with registration alongside coffee and food vendors and a resource fair with local organizations. A dove release leads into the start of the memorial 5K run and walk. Throughout the event there is live music in the park, activities for children, and an inspirational photo booth for keepsake pictures, with plenty of time to connect with friends, family, and neighbors. Participants may complete the full 5K route or choose a shorter distance. Options to register, form a team, donate, or sponsor are available.

    ALS MN Bike Ride

    Set out for a scenic pedal at the ALS MN Bike Ride, beginning at the Scandia MN Community Center. This ride follows quiet country roads in rural Washington County, passing horse farms, moving through small towns, and winding along forested lanes. Riders may follow the route on their own or travel with a ride marshal and a group. Coffee and treats are available before the start, and the group gathers for lunch at a local venue afterward. The ride also serves a charitable purpose by building awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Event captains Rita Wilczek and Alan Wichman lead in memory of Rita’s brother Mark and sister Lynn. There is no registration fee. Route options are available and registered riders receive GPS links. Free will donations support the ALS Therapy Development Institute, a research organization dedicated to developing treatments and ultimately a cure. Donations are confidential, will be tallied toward a corporate match, and supporters are encouraged to designate their gift to Mark and Lynn’s Team.
