Children of all ages are welcome, and the content is designed with older kids in mind. The New Richmond FFA Alumni & Supporters host their annual fundraiser tractor pull on a gravel track at Form-A-Feed in New Richmond, Wisconsin. The event features Classic, Farm Stock, Powderpuff, and Outlaw competition with a $20 hook fee, a three hook limit per tractor, and a 100 pound grace on weight. Speed limits are enforced on the track... a single overage is allowed, and a second results in disqualification. Tractors may move between Classic and Farm Stock when they meet the year requirement, while Outlaw entries compete only in that division. Class guidelines include Classics for 1951 and older with a 3.5 mph cap and low gear only, with classes at 3000, 3500, 4500, 5500, and 6500. Farm Stock allows any year and any gear with a 4.5 mph cap, with classes at 2500, 3000, 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500, 7500, and 8500. Outlaw runs at 6.5 mph with 4500, 5500, and 6500. Participants explore appliqué and embroidery while crafting a practical, decorative bag that celebrates heritage and keeps everyday items close. In Swedish folk dräkt, kjolväskor were used to carry oats or salt so cows would follow the herder home, and today they are a convenient place for a phone or keys. The course totals eight hours divided across two sessions, with a longer first day and a shorter second day. The fee is 135 dollars and includes a 25 dollar materials charge, covering fabric and lining, felt, embroidery floss, a pattern, and one needle. Suggested for ages 15 to adult. Natalie Norman brings over 20 years in cultural needlework, having taught and demonstrated at Gammelgården Museum, the American Swedish Institute, and Marine Mills Folk School. Her embroidered work, supported by the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC, toured five major American cities and continued with a 15-month exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden. A 2019 fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation enabled further study of traditional folk art, including fritt broderi at Sätergläntan in Dalarna and påsöm at the Mora Folk School. Learn to craft a fabric-wrapped, coiled bowl in a welcoming class designed for beginners. Working with clothesline and narrow fabric strips, participants shape and stitch at the sewing machine while watching prints and colors shift as the bowl grows. Finished pieces make thoughtful gifts and are useful for table accents, sewing notions, or keeping a remote control handy. Instruction covers how to wrap fabric smoothly around clothesline, how to build a sturdy three-dimensional form at the machine, and how pattern placement changes the look as the coil develops. Please bring a working sewing machine that can sew a zigzag stitch, along with a zigzag presser foot that offers good visibility. Plan on about three quarters of a yard of cotton fabric for a medium bowl, cut into strips approximately three quarters of an inch wide. Prewashing is not required and you do not need to cut on the bias. Yarn or ribbon may be substituted. Pack coordinating all-purpose thread, a size 14 or 16 universal needle, at least 50 feet of clothesline, small quilt clips or clothespins, a stylus or chopstick to help guide the bowl as it forms, a school glue stick, scissors, pins, a small ruler, and a seam ripper. Before class, cut your fabric into three-quarter-inch strips and wind two bobbins in the thread colors you plan to use. Clothesline can be found at hardware stores in three-sixteenths- or one-quarter-inch diameters. Choose cotton or a cotton polyester blend without a plastic core. You can also select 100 percent cotton craft clothesline, such as the Gypsy Quilter brand available locally at Affinity for Quilts. Registration is managed through EventBrite. Because writing about trauma differs from other forms of storytelling, the group offers space to learn, trade ideas, and receive gentle guidance that can help shape a personal narrative or even a book. This is an educational class designed for learning, feedback, and community building. It is not therapy, a replacement for therapy, or a support group. The group meets monthly. Participants may submit a short piece ahead of time or bring it to share for reading and discussion, with the goal of refining craft and building confidence. Due to the sensitive nature, first-time attendees need to register in advance. Attendance is free, ages 16 and up, and the group is intentionally small with 1 to 10 participants. Chisago Lakes Fastpitch is holding skills evaluations for 10U and 12U athletes at the Chisago Lakes High School softball complex. Players should bring a softball bag with bat or bats, helmet, fielding mask, glove, cleats, and water. Parents will check in their player, then leave the fields, and will be notified by email or Facebook when pick up is ready. Registration for the summer league is required before taking part in tryouts. Players who want to be considered for the next age group also need to complete tryouts for their current age group. Trying for a higher level offers a chance to show growth, but placement is not guaranteed. Separate sessions are planned for pitchers and catchers, and anyone interested in pitching or catching during the summer season must attend those evaluations in addition to the general tryout. Arrow Broken Poetry Collective presents an evening of poetry and community featuring acclaimed author Mona Susan Power, centered on the theme Wóohitika, Courage, a focus on resilience and strength in Dakóta traditions as described by Dakota Wicohan. Power is the author of four works of fiction: The Grass Dancer, a national bestseller that received the PEN/Hemingway Prize, Roofwalker, a collection of stories and essays honored with the Milkweed National Fiction Prize, Sacred Wilderness, recipient of the Electa Quinney Award, and A Council of Dolls, winner of the Minnesota Book Award and High Plains Book Award and longlisted for the National Book Award and the Carol Shields Prize. Her writing has appeared in The Best American Short Stories series, The Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review, The Missouri Review, Ploughshares, and Granta. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and her work has been supported by the Iowa Arts Fellowship, James Michener Fellowship, Radcliffe Bunting Institute Fellowship, Princeton Hodder Fellowship, USA Artists Fellowship, McKnight Fellowship, and Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellowship. An enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Iháŋktȟuŋwaŋna Dakhóta), Power was born and raised in Chicago. As a child she participated in the Chicago Indian Village movement, which protested the conditions faced by Native people encouraged to relocate to cities. A documentary about that movement received an Academy Award nomination in 1979, and she attended the ceremony as a guest of director Jerry Aronson. She lives in Minnesota and is at work on additional novels, including The Year of Fury. This free gathering takes place at The Village Hall in Marine on St Croix. An open mic follows, offering up to three minutes for each person who wishes to share their work. Free paper shredding is offered at Environmental Centers throughout the year. This event is limited to Washington County residents and businesses, and proof of residency is required. Participants may bring up to six boxes of documents, with each box weighing no more than 30 pounds. Papers are shredded on site by Shred Right and then recycled. Only paper documents are accepted, and no other materials can be dropped off at this event.

Open to everyone, this two-day, in-person LivingWorks ASIST workshop provides practical suicide intervention training. Through audiovisual segments, guided conversation, and simulations, participants learn to notice when someone might be thinking about suicide, respond with a structured intervention, and work together on a safety plan that links them to ongoing support. The course also explores how personal and community beliefs about suicide can influence a person’s willingness to seek help and a helper’s ability to offer it. Two supportive trainers lead the sessions and foster a comfortable, safe learning environment. The fee is $200 per person and includes lunch, snacks, and refreshments. Together, the group explores structure, pacing, voice, and other techniques that help turn lived experience into clear, meaningful narratives that honor both writer and reader. Each month, members may submit a short piece in advance or bring it to the meeting to read. The group reads and discusses each piece, offering gentle insights to strengthen storytelling and build confidence, including support for those working on longer projects such as a book. This is an educational class focused on learning, feedback, and community. It is not therapy, a substitute for therapy, or a support group. Chandler's Conceal & Carry is presenting a permit to carry course at The Forest Lake American Legion in Forest Lake, Minnesota, with a focus on Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Florida. The class combines classroom instruction with a brief live fire session and welcomes participants with no prior firearms experience or Hunter Safety certification. Completion of the course qualifies attendees to apply for or renew a Minnesota Permit to Carry, recognized in 36 states, and also provides the option to apply for or renew a Florida nonresident permit. The cost is $95.00, which includes the range fee. All necessities for the day are provided, including required forms and applications, eye and ear protection, a target, and the use of a handgun with ammunition at no additional charge.
