This weekend in Platteville, WI

Head to Platteville City Park for the outdoor season of the Platteville Farmers Market, where local growers, bakers, and artisans offer fresh produce, baked treats, handmade goods, farm products, and delicious food. Enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere while supporting small businesses and area farmers. The selection changes from week to week with new items, seasonal harvests, featured vendors, live music, and fun surprises throughout the season.

Build a strong foundation in urban sketching during this hands-on workshop with instructor Don Yang. Open to ages 14 and up and welcoming all experience levels, the session focuses on core skills, practical techniques, and a clear step-by-step process for starting and finishing a compelling urban sketch. Participants will receive guidance on selecting tools, exploring composition, and moving confidently from first lines to final details. Bring the media you prefer to work with, whether graphite, ballpoint or fountain pens, colored pencils, chalk or Conté, or paints such as watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or oil. Please arrive with enough paper or other surfaces to complete four to six sketches, based on your pace and style. The fee is $150.

Learn to work with hot glass in a hands on class that covers gathering from the furnace, handling tools, and shaping pieces as they come to life. Geared toward newcomers, you will complete three nature themed projects... a flower, a bird, and a paperweight. Instructor Nathan Gieseke offers attentive guidance when you need it and encourages independence as your confidence grows. The class is limited to three students and welcomes beginners and above. The materials fee includes both clear and colored glass. Please wear close fitting clothing made from natural fibers, such as a cotton T shirt and jeans, and closed toe shoes. Avoid dangling earrings or hair. Bring water and be ready for a hot work environment. If the session fills, a waitlist is available.

The North American National Normande Show will be held at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point, WI. The public is welcome to attend. Normande breeders and owners are eligible to exhibit, and all cattle shown must be registered in, or eligible for, the NANA herd book. A complete class list is available on the NANA website. Support the UD Men’s Hockey program at the 3rd Annual UD Men’s Hockey Golf Scramble at Birchwood Golf Development. This four-person scramble features a shotgun start and includes lunch, drinks, and games. Registration is $300 per team of four or $75 per individual golfer. Marking its 12th anniversary, this Family Adventure Day at Blackhawk Lake Rec Area features a variety of activity stations. Plans include art among the pines, bluebird house activities, hikes on the Enchanted Trails, fishing, and more. Additional details will be announced as plans come together.

This annual, family-friendly Oktoberfest at Q Casino features the Guttenberg German Band, a tradition since the festival began, performing on the new Backstage area. Activities include wiener dog races, a stein-holding contest, polka dance lessons, and children’s games, with more to discover. As a nonprofit celebration, all proceeds benefit Camp Albrecht Acres, a residential summer camp for people with special needs. There will be plenty of music for all ages.

Ryan Bizarri, a Nashville songwriter and Midwest artist, brings an acoustic country set to PJ's Pub and Hall. The performance features classics made popular by Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, and Zac Brown Band, with a few surprises along the way. The kitchen serves comfort favorites such as chicken sandwiches like the Godfather, Uncle Billy, and Black & Blue, along with fresh burgers, crispy fries, and Wisconsin cheese curds. Specialty options include broasted chicken and prime rib on select days, plus nachos and quesadillas, with chocolate or vanilla ice cream for dessert. Behind the bar, find rotating craft beers and signature cocktails, including Strawberry Rose Sangria, Espresso Martinis, and fresh squeezed gin and tonics, as well as local favorites and cold beer. PJ's Pub and Hall occupies the former site of the Kall Inn supper club founded by Ben and Mable Kahle in 1945, which was among the first places in town to have a television. It is operated by cousins Peter Murphy and Julius Moor, third generation owners continuing a family legacy of more than 50 years.

At University of Dubuque Heritage Center, a 90 minute audiovisual tribute recreates the sound and spirit of the Highwaymen, celebrating the country supergroup of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash. Michael Moore portrays Willie Nelson, August Manley portrays Waylon Jennings, and Mark Gagnon portrays Johnny Cash, coming together after years of performing solo tributes. The performance features a run of familiar favorites, including Ring of Fire, Dukes of Hazard, On the Road Again, and Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys. The set is designed to capture the energy of the original concerts with an upbeat, honky tonk country vibe.

Kava Kava hosts a welcoming karaoke night that celebrates music and connection. Step up to the mic for a favorite tune or cheer from the crowd, and soak in a laid-back atmosphere shaped by shells, song, and soul. The spotlight is open to everyone, creating an easygoing stage where first-timers and seasoned singers can shine together.

A relaxed meet-up for car enthusiasts with coffee, donuts, and soda. All proceeds are donated directly to The Veterans Freedom Center.

The 24th Annual DASFI Golf Outing features a four-person scramble in a best-shot format with a shotgun start. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for Dodgeville High School seniors.

Fans gather at the Grand River Convention Center in downtown Dubuque for a marketplace and cosplay celebration focused on pop culture. Attendees can buy or sell vintage video games, trading card game cards, posters, comics, toys, Funko Pops, and other collectibles. A cosplay showcase features $300 in prizes, with full details to be announced during the week of the event.

Held at the University of Dubuque Track and Field, this community walk during National Suicide Prevention Month centers on remembrance, support, and awareness. In 2025, Iowa lost 554 people to suicide. To honor them, the event aims to bring together 554 community members as a visible expression of love for those who are missed.
