Rhett Miller, longtime frontman of the popular rock band Old 97’s, appears at Shank Hall in Milwaukee with support from Louie Lucchesi and Mike Benign. For more than three decades he has led Old 97’s, which received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Americana Awards at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. After a pair of independent releases, the band signed with Elektra Records for the critically acclaimed album Too Far to Care, and followed with their 13th studio release, American Primitive, on ATO Records in the spring of 2024. Between band projects, Miller has issued eight solo albums, most recently 2025’s A Lifetime of Riding by Night. Miller’s work extends beyond the stage. His short stories, essays and articles have appeared in outlets including Rolling Stone, Bookforum, Sports Illustrated, McSweeney’s, The Atlantic and Salon. He has written two children’s books for Little, Brown Young Readers. His podcast, Wheels Off: Conversations about Creativity, has surpassed 200 episodes and features guests from across the arts. On screen, he appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, performing a song co-written with director James Gunn, and his music has been featured widely in film, television and advertising. He teaches songwriting at The New School, hosts an annual Songwriting Is Magic retreat in the Catskills, and has led workshops at the Sanibel Island Writers Conference, Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music and Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. The bill also features Louie Lucchesi and Mike Benign, the songwriting duo behind Milwaukee’s Louie & The Flashbombs. You will learn to use an oxygen analyzer, practice analyzing and correctly labeling nitrox cylinders, and set your dive computer for EANx. To complete the course, you will need to successfully analyze and label at least two cylinders. Enriched Air Nitrox is not a technical breathing gas and using it does not make you a technical diver, yet it has been widely used by recreational divers since 1985. Completing this class also counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating.

Violinist Julian Rhee, winner of the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant, performs Korngold’s violin concerto, a piece drawn from the composer’s film scores and often nicknamed his Hollywood concerto. The program also features Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, considered the composer’s most important symphonic work, colored by eerie waltzes and jazz-influenced writing. This two day beginning tree climbing course teaches the skills and safety practices needed to climb trees using technical rope systems for work or recreation. Training starts with the MRS approach, also known as the doubled rope technique (DdRT), chosen for its reliability and consistency and for building a strong foundation that carries over to other systems. Instruction covers gear selection and care, how to evaluate a tree, set a climbing line, ascend, move through the canopy with control, and return to the ground safely. All class gear is supplied, and participants will handle a range of equipment during training. The program blends classroom learning with in-tree practice over two days. Each student receives the Beginning Tree Climbing: Climbing Tree Using Rope & Saddle manual and four post-class climb opportunities. Open to ages 16 and up. Tuition is $535.

Settle in at Sheryl's Club 175 for a chunky knit blanket workshop that blends creative, hands-on making with food and drinks. Beginners and experienced crafters are welcome, and the blankets are created using only your hands. You will craft a lap blanket that can be adjusted looser or tighter to change its size, with the snuggest stitch pattern yielding about 45 by 42 inches and many blankets turning out larger. Everyone finishes with a new blanket tucked into a blanket bag, plus emailed instructions and tips for purchasing yarn for future projects. Advance registration is required and capacity is limited to 12, with spots confirmed in the order registrations are received. Participants ages 12 and up can complete a blanket independently. Learn how Enriched Air Nitrox can extend your no-stop time, especially when planning multiple dives over several days. This course is designed for recreational divers and using EANx does not make it a technical program. There are no required dives. Training begins with e-learning, followed by an in-person practical session that starts with a short quiz review. In the hands-on portion, you will practice using an oxygen analyzer, confirm the blend in cylinders, label them correctly, and set a dive computer for EANx. Each participant will analyze and label at least two tanks to demonstrate understanding. Completing this course also counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating, and reflects the long-standing popularity of EANx among recreational divers since 1985.
