This open Overeaters Anonymous meeting welcomes anyone interested in the OA program, including students, support people, and healthcare professionals. Parcel Players brings the Tony Award winning musical Guys and Dolls to Towngate Theatre under the direction of Erin Bond. With a book by Abe Burrow and Jo Swerling and a celebrated score by Frank Loesser, this classic comedy unfolds in a stylized New York City inspired by Damon Runyon’s tales of gamblers and “mission dolls.” The story showcases vivid characters including Sky Masterson, Sarah Brown, Nathan Detroit, and Miss Adelaide, and features beloved numbers such as “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.” Premiering on Broadway in 1950 and honored as Best Musical, the show’s humor and tuneful spirit have sustained its popularity through many revivals and a 1955 film adaptation. This summer, the Oglebay amphitheater hosts a weekly storytime that brings books to life through lively storytelling. Hosted by Ohio Valley Gigs at the historic Waterfront Hall, this jam session brings together experienced players and emerging talent to connect with the local music community. Artists can step up for a solo spot with originals or covers, take the stage with a full band, or collaborate with the house band, which is ready to support styles like blues, rock, jazz, and country. A professional stage setup is provided, including a full drum kit, amplifiers for guitar and bass, a piano, and a quality PA with microphones, so there is little heavy lifting and more time to play. The event also serves as a networking hub where musicians can meet potential bandmates, arrange future gigs, and support fellow local artists in a collaborative, high energy setting.
