Led by Linda Lopez, the Crystal Bridges Teaching Artist in Residence and an artist represented in the museum’s collection, this hands-on workshop invites learners ages 14 and up to shape imaginative abstract sculptures using pre-pigmented porcelain clay. Participants skip color mixing and move straight into building bold forms while exploring texture, repetition, movement, and form to develop a personal abstract vocabulary inspired by everyday observations. Demonstrations cover approachable handbuilding techniques and simple ways to blend, layer, and arrange colored porcelain. Everyone will create a small set of color samples and a series of playful, small-scale sculptural pieces that reflect individual discoveries. Alongside studio time, the class looks at how contemporary and historical ceramic artists, including Lopez, use color, line, and abstraction to turn familiar moments into sculptural expression. Designed for all skill levels, the experience encourages curiosity, experimentation, and creative play. Tickets are $249, with a discounted rate of $207.50 for members and for adults 25 and under. All materials are provided, and enrolled students receive access to Sunday open studio hours for independent practice. Registration is available online or by calling Guest Experience at (479) 657-2335.
