    Calafia Rapier Tournament (Uncollared)

Buddy Todd Park, 3000 Mesa Dr, Oceanside · verified Jul 31
    See details

Set in Buddy Todd Park, the Calafia Rapier Tournament at Uncollared focuses on joy, courage, creativity, and community, showing how happiness can spring from a hard-fought bout, a brave risk, a proudly shared project, and a day spent among friends. The site opens for the day, an opening court follows at the pleasure of Their Majesties or Excellencies, lists close shortly after court, and the event concludes with a closing court before the site closes. Adult registration is $20, with a $10 discounted rate for adult members. Youth under 18 attend as guests of the Barony. Cash and checks are accepted at the gate, and checks should be made payable to SCA Inc./Canton of Summergate. The Rapier list is single elimination with the option to earn a second life by displaying or demonstrating a recent arts or sciences project. Finals are best of 11 with no repeated weapons forms, so competitors are encouraged to bring a range of secondaries, and extra equipment will be available if needed. A prize will be awarded to the most well-rounded fighter. Cut and Thrust follows a similar format, also single elimination with a second life available through arts or sciences; its finals are best of 11 to first blood, with weapons forms determined by the Masters of Defense on site. Fighters may enter both lists, but an extra life earned through art can be used for only one list and must be chosen at sign-in. Masters of Defense will not enter the lists as competitors, though their roles as marshals, mentors, and witnesses to the joy are welcomed. An arts and sciences competition is open to all, with entries on display throughout the day. If a piece will go onto the field with its maker, a photo and brief description should be provided for the display. Fighters who enter receive a token to redeem at the list table for a second life, and the Ladies of the Rose will judge the competition. This is a dry site, and dogs must be kept on a leash. The spirit of the day shines in the friend who cheers a comeback, the art that returns a fighter to the line, the laughter after a double, and the moment someone tries something new, with happiness found on the list field, at the arts table, and in the shared moments between.
