Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market is the oldest farmers' market on the Peninsula. Conceived in 1979 by four community-oriented individuals led by John S. Hensill, Ph.D., it was created to support local independent farmers and to supply the community with fresh produce.

Peninsula Open Space Trust and the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory present a hands-on volunteer workday at the Bair Island unit of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Guided by SFBBO staff and POST volunteers, participants will remove invasive plants or plant native species to support the island’s ecosystem and help boost biodiversity in Redwood City. Tools are provided and no prior experience is required. The day includes a brief overview of Bair Island’s history along with information about tidal wetlands and native versus invasive plants. Tasks involve lifting, digging, carrying, bending, kneeling, and walking on uneven terrain. An email will share what to bring and wear. This activity is best for ages 14 and older, and all minors must be accompanied by an adult throughout. Because Bair Island is a preserve, dogs are not allowed.

Enjoy a visit to Gamble Garden and discover the historic house and grounds while learning about nature. Designed for adults, kids, and families alike, the program features guided tours, scavenger hunts, educational stations, crafts, storytime, and other special activities. Each month highlights a different theme, and admission is free and open to everyone.

At the San Mateo County History Museum, the Old Courthouse becomes a glimpse of Victorian California with free admission. Beneath the stained glass dome, children can enjoy era-themed craft projects and set off on a museum-wide scavenger hunt. In the restored historic courtroom, a fashion presentation showcases looks from across the period, from the voluminous skirts of the 1850s and the bustle era of the 1870s to the Gibson Girl style of the turn of the century. The program also highlights stories of nineteenth century Peninsula millionaires who wore these fashions. Every outfit comes from the museum’s educational collection used in fashion shows and reenactments. A family-friendly experience that brings history to life.

Bay Area Quiz Club hosts an in-person trivia gathering with friendly competition in a welcoming atmosphere. Organized by volunteers, the club is dedicated to building community around quizzing in the Bay Area. The event is held at Mitchell Park Library. There is no charge to participate, and everyone is welcome.

Courthouse Square turns into an outdoor movie hub with free back-to-back films the whole family can enjoy. This screening features Lilo & Stitch, a PG-rated live-action retelling of the 2002 Disney favorite about a young Hawaiian girl and a runaway alien whose arrival helps mend her family.
