Dear Steve... it's Allie/RiC Field trip

Boulder · Canyon Theater and Gallery, 988 Canyon Blvd

Musician and storyteller Allie blends tradition and technology in a live performance that moves between music, memory, and conversation. She performs on piano and mountain dulcimer, layering in archival voices, electronics, and symphonic textures while singing and narrating a dialogue with her younger self, Steve. The journey reflects on a heartland childhood and a devoted father seen from a distance, alongside the life she leads today as a trans composer and artist. Prompted by an invitation from an evangelical cousin to return to her hometown and attend church, Allie frames the piece as a road trip back to Steve’s boyhood home. Along the way she speaks to what went unseen at the time and to the forces that shaped them both. A Q&A follows the performance. The event welcomes all ages, with adult accompaniment recommended for younger children.

The Wild Page™ ~ Autumn Listening: Where Earth Speaks and Soul Responds ~ Nature Journaling Retreat

    Boulder · Flagstaff Mountain

Set amid the turning colors of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado, this autumn nature journaling retreat offers a slow, sensory way of being outdoors for three unhurried hours. As the season balances letting go with resilience, participants use words, sketches, and color to attend to wind in the branches, the soft hush of pine needles, and the quiet life underfoot, then allow their own responses to take shape on the page. The focus is connection rather than record-keeping, letting ink carry intention and color hold conversation so each page feels like an offering. Time together includes gentle wandering, moments to tune in to both inner and outer wildness, and a closing circle with optional sharing. Participants supply their own materials, and everything takes place outside. Bring a journal or sketchbook, a pen or pencil along with any favorite colors, water, layers suited to the weather, a seat pad or small folding stool, and sturdy closed-toe shoes because fallen leaves and pine needles can be slick. The retreat continues in light rain, wind, or chill, and if severe weather is expected, registered participants will receive an email update that morning. No previous art or journaling experience is required, and simple curiosity is welcome.

    The Band Memo

Boulder · Velvet Elk Lounge, 2037 13th St

The Band Memo emerged in New York in 2025 and quickly built a reputation for high-energy concerts. Rooted in the spirit of classic rock yet driven by a fresh point of view, the group balances nostalgia with originality. Onstage they lean into improvisation, shaping each set in the moment as tight songwriting launches guitar-powered climaxes and funk-laced psychedelic grooves, all while responding to the crowd. Their self-recorded and produced EP, Treading Water, highlights their growth in the studio, blending textures from the 1960s and 1970s with a contemporary spark. They have supported The Heavy Heavy, Allen Stone, and Mihali of Twiddle, and they completed their first headlining tour in the summer of 2026, marking a swift rise within retro rock and jam circles.

Rosalind Wiseman: The Adults Our Children Need, Creating a Culture of Dignity

Boulder · Boulder Country Day School, 4816 Nautilus Ct N

Conversations with kids can stall in familiar ways, like a quiet car ride that ends with a one word reply or a mention of friend drama followed by a quick dismissal of every suggestion. In this talk, American author and public speaker Rosalind Wiseman, known for Mean Girls and Queen Bees and Wannabes, offers parents and educators practical approaches to move past those stuck moments by looking at the patterns that drive them. The session explores the unspoken habits and assumptions you absorbed growing up, sometimes called your invisible operating system, and how they influence the way you talk with young people. It shares recent research on how youth view their relationships with adults, what sparks their motivation in and beyond the classroom, and why they may push adults away right when support is most needed. Attendees learn to trade well meaning phrases that shut conversations down for language that opens them up, to put clear guiding principles to work right away, and to coordinate with the other adults in a child’s life so everyone uses a shared approach.

Motus Theater Presents: What Love Requires in Lafayette, CO

Lafayette · The Collective Community Arts Center, 101 E Geneseo St

At The Collective Community Arts Center, Motus Theater partners with the Parent Engagement Network to present What Love Requires, an autobiographical monologue program centered on the experiences of parents of transgender and nonbinary adults. Through first-person storytelling, the event explores how caregivers strive to champion their children as they bring their distinct gifts to the world. The narratives consider how family and social expectations can narrow how children are perceived, and how parenting transgender and nonbinary children can carry especially high stakes because of the threats they may face for living their true gender. The performance spotlights moments of survival and flourishing, and it also acknowledges how parents become freer from limiting ideas about gender as they genuinely see and learn from their children. Monologues are shared by Beth Leyba (she/her), Lynn Kutner (she/her), and Cat Lindsey (she/her), with music by violinist Anthony Salvo (he/him).

Flying Solo Workshop With Jo Hoffberg

    Boulder · 6234 Arapahoe Rd

Drawing on years of intensive teaching, Jo leads a small-group environment that spotlights rhythm, body awareness, musicality, dynamics, and improvisation. Designed for dancers who want to elevate the quality of their movement, it blends structured drills with room for exploration and is aimed at intermediate and above, with adventurous beginners welcome. Instruction can scale to keep participants challenged. The curriculum moves through foundations, Charleston-inspired footwork, classic jazz ideas and the transitions between them, plus focused training on bounce, arms, and hips before pulling everything together with finishing details. Q&A and practice segments are woven throughout. This is not a choreography-driven program, and it is not limited to solo jazz steps; those serve as reference points while the focus stays on general movement, control, timing, and even a bit of partnering. Cost is $225, and space is limited to 35 dancers. There is often an optional social outing with dinner, drinks, and dancing to non-swing music to round out the experience.
