Future of Healthcare Awards Ceremony
Presented by the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association, the first-ever Future of Healthcare Awards celebrates outstanding healthcare professionals under 40 who are strengthening the health of communities across Greater Bridgeport. Taking place at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course, the program includes a reception, dinner, and an awards ceremony honoring physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, dental professionals, community health workers, and other healthcare leaders. Nominations came in from across the region, reflecting the depth of talent, commitment, and leadership within the healthcare workforce. The celebration highlights emerging professionals who are shaping the future of care in the region. Tickets are $60 per person, and Patron Tickets are $100 with recognition in the event program.

Weekly practice sessions focus on the art of thrown weapons with the Barony of Dragonship Haven. Participants may bring their own knives, axes, and spears for inspection, or borrow equipment from the Thrown Weapons Marshall and host, Leon the Navigator. All activities follow Society of Creative Anachronisms thrown weapons rules and the host’s instructions. Practice takes place outdoors and is weather dependent.

Sessions are organized by age group across multiple days to provide a focused evaluation setting for youth travel softball athletes looking to advance their skills.

Park City Music Hall hosts an all-ages night of live music with Strictly Business and Dayko. Strictly Business, a Southwest Connecticut cover band, moves from pop to rock to R&B and funk to keep the crowd dancing. Dayko, a college group, mixes covers with original songs across pop, rock and indie, and the members have performed together for up to six years with gigs around Connecticut. General admission is $10, plus online ticketing fees. A full bar and kitchen are on site, serving craft cocktails and tasty bites. Food service begins when doors open and continues until the light indicating the kitchen is open is turned off. The venue is primarily standing room with very limited seating, and any available seats are offered on a first come, first served basis.

This free-ticket Children’s Series performance features Mega Ran, a former middle school teacher who became a Grammy nominee for Best Children’s Album. His kid-focused hip hop blends education and encouragement, with tracks like “You’re Enough” and “Get Your Wiggle On.” He is a Billboard-charting children’s artist and a foster father, and gamers may recognize his music from Mortal Kombat 11 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The Dachshunds of Connecticut pack walk has moved to Penfield Mills Open Space in Fairfield, next to South Benson Marina, because dogs are not allowed on the beaches during this part of the year. This 25-acre area runs along Ash Creek and features historic elements, views of the salt marsh, and walking trails in a calm, scenic setting. To access the park, enter through South Benson Marina, let the gate attendant know you are visiting the open space, then turn left after the gate to park. The park is open to the public and provides plenty of space for dachshunds and their people to gather and stroll together.

Young enthusiasts of codes and secret messages can dive into a camp filled with puzzles, programming, and teamwork. Campers journey through the world of cryptology, learn how to build and break coded information using methods inspired by historical codebreakers, and experiment with time tested puzzle crafting techniques to design their own challenges. They will then use Microsoft MakeCode Arcade and the micro:bit to program tools for encrypting and decrypting messages. The experience wraps up with a collaborative escape room style project that brings everyone’s skills together and can be played and shared with peers and friends. Single day options are available. Their latest release, Cool Blue Shoes, topped the Roots Music Report Blues Rock rankings in 2025. Bassist David Hull, known for work with Aerosmith, James Montgomery, and Buddy Miles, leads his current project with guitarist Pete Cassani and drummer Stephen Hart. The Dirty Angels first formed in the 1970s under Hull and fellow Staples High School alum Charlie Karp. Their path included leaving high school to perform with the Buddy Miles Express, with one of their first gigs opening for Jimi Hendrix at LA’s Staples Center. The evening features long-standing chemistry between The Name Droppers and The Dirty Angels, along with a blend of familiar and new material. A monthly community recycling drive at Trumbull High School, organized by Sustainable Trumbull with support from Terracycle, Planet Green Recycling, and TREX, focuses on hard-to-recycle materials that do not belong in curbside bins. Participants can bring used but clean items from any brand, including oral care materials such as toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and flexible packaging, and floss containers, along with razors and beauty product packaging like makeup containers, cream tubes, and deodorant sticks. Plastic bottles such as shampoo bottles that are larger than two inches belong in curbside recycling rather than this collection. The drive also accepts hairstyling tools like curling irons and hair dryers, eyeglasses and contact lens materials, writing instruments including pens, markers, glue sticks, mechanical pencils, and highlighters, as well as flexible plastic film and #2 or #4 bags and wrapping. Clean plastic takeout containers are accepted except black. Additional categories include squeeze food pouches, textiles of any condition, printer ink cartridges and toner, black plastic flower and plant pots, and phone cases with pop sockets. Brand-specific packaging such as Late July chips and Entemann Little Bites is welcome. This event coincides with the THS Marching Band Redeemable Drive, so redeemable bottles and cans can be dropped off at the same time. Baystate Textile bins at Hillcrest and Madison schools offer drop-off for textiles anytime, and Saturday curbside pickup is available by appointment through Helpsy Co. Held on the second Saturday of each month, this drive offers a convenient way to reduce waste and keep challenging materials out of the landfill.

Park City Music Hall welcomes the Bella Rayne Band, led by 18 years old, self-taught guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Bella Rayne. Born in the mountains of North Carolina and raised on the Mendocino coast of California, she delivers a bold mix of jam band energy, Southern-leaning rock, 90s grunge grit, and a psychedelic streak that is drawing national attention. Her story began during the pandemic when she revived an old Stratocaster from the garage, taught herself to play by ear, and blended influences from rock, Americana, bluegrass, and the jam-band tradition into a sound that feels distinctly her own. Along the way she has shared stages with the Allman Betts Family Revival, Melvin Seals & JGB, ALO, Jackie Greene, Oteil Burbridge, and members of Terrapin Family, and was highlighted by her hero Susan Tedeschi in Guitar World Magazine as one to watch. Founded in San Francisco in the late 1990s to explore Davis’s electric period, the ensemble focuses this performance on In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and Jack Johnson, highlighting a bold mix of funk, rock, experimental textures, and free spirited improvisation. Once a point of debate among longtime listeners, this era is now widely recognized for its forward vision, with Jack Johnson often praised by critics for its originality and foresight. The band features Ross Bellenoit on guitar, DMHotep on guitar, Nazir Ebo on drums, Yesseh Furaha-Ali on woodwinds, Ezra Gale on bass, Charlie Hall on drums and percussion, Mitch Marcus on saxophone and Fender Rhodes, Luke O’Reilly on organ, Bobby Spellman on trumpet, and Daniel Villarreal on percussion. Hall is a Philadelphia-based drummer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer who plays in the Grammy Award winning rock band The War On Drugs. He releases music of his own, including Invisible Ink, and produces the A Philly Special Christmas LPs with members of the Philadelphia Eagles alongside artists such as Patti LaBelle and Stevie Nicks. His credits also include collaborations with Tommy Guerrero, Jet Black Crayon, Jens Lekman, Feist, Windsor for the Derby, and Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons. AIR COOLED CLASSIC CAR SHOW
An annual gathering of air cooled enthusiasts brings classic and air cooled powered vehicles together on the grass in downtown Westport, Connecticut. All makes and models are invited to participate, and Peter Bush will be on hand to call the action as rows of distinctive machines roll in. Proceeds from the show benefit Mentors & Motors, an ongoing SCC initiative that engages young people and helps open pathways to careers across the automotive field. SCC is a registered 501(c)(3). Expect a relaxed show atmosphere with a food truck, Enthusiasts Choice awards, and convenient access just minutes from I95 and the Merritt Parkway. Entry is $25 per car and driver, while passengers and spectators attend for free. Club discounts are available at the registration tent.
