The session begins with about two hours of discussion to build a strong foundation, then shifts to the shop for guided work at the machines. Instruction covers where safety features are located and how they function, including use of the emergency stop, along with efficient tool changes, correct clamping techniques, proper startup steps, and choosing spindle speeds. You will practice squaring the vise with precision and consult the Machinists Handbook to select tools, cutting speeds, and feeds. Along the way, you will pick up techniques for rescuing a part if a measurement goes off or a mistake occurs. The practical project is a set of custom metal six-sided dice, which offers a clear and creative way to apply what you learn. This class welcomes those with no prior experience. Participants must watch two videos before attending, titled Bridgeport Vertical Milling Machine Basics and Metalworking Metrology, and anyone who has not completed these prerequisites may be asked to leave without a refund. A link to class materials will be provided in the confirmation email, and reviewing it in advance is encouraged. Upon successful completion of the class and the online badging process, MakeHaven members will receive the Bridgeport badge, with profile updates appearing within three to four days. The Dirty Angels first rose to prominence in the 1970s when Hull and fellow Staples High School alum Charlie Karp formed the band. Their shared past includes leaving high school to perform in the Buddy Miles Express, with one of their earliest shows opening for Jimi Hendrix at the Staples Center in LA. A park-set production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, directed by Nancy A. The story begins with a ship hurled into peril by a great storm, then moves to a distant island where the magician Prospero lives with his daughter Miranda, alongside Caliban and the spirit Ariel. Songs and music thread through the action to heighten the island’s sense of enchantment. Themes of sorcery, betrayal, revenge, forgiveness, and family guide the drama, and a wedding celebration in the fourth act adds pageantry, symbolism, and elevated verse. Often grouped with Shakespeare’s late romances, the play blends comic and tragic tones, and some interpretations read Prospero’s surrender of magic as echoing a farewell from the playwright himself. Presented by Connecticut Public at College Street Music Hall, The Moth Mainstage is a two-part live storytelling program with a musical performance and a well known host. Five storytellers step up with real, first person tales told from memory, exploring a wide range of themes. These stories will be recorded for future episodes of The Moth Podcast and The Moth Radio Hour. The Moth is a nonprofit devoted to the craft of storytelling and to honoring both our differences and what we share. Over the past 25 years it has brought more than 40,000 unscripted personal stories to packed rooms and to audiences around the world, producing about 600 in person and virtual shows each year and maintaining a presence in 28 cities. Through its Education, Community and Global Programs, and MothWorks, it also offers workshops for students, teachers, adults and advocates that use Moth storytelling principles as tools for empathetic communication.
