Make Your Own Plant Pot or Vase Pottery Workshop

Boston · Blu Dot, 141 Seaport Blvd Boston

At Blu Dot in Boston, this hands-on pottery workshop invites participants to unplug and craft a custom planter or vase, and no experience is required. An experienced host teaches foundational hand-building techniques such as pinch and coil methods, then shows how to turn them into functional pieces like vases, planters, mugs, or bowls. Personalize your creation with details like handles, textures, footed bases, or playful faces. All materials and tools are provided. The atmosphere is relaxed and beginner friendly, welcoming first timers, solo attendees, and groups. Participants leave with a handmade piece that reflects their style. A ceramic finishing upgrade is available for an additional cost, allowing one selected item to be taken back to the studio for glazing and firing to make it waterproof and food safe, then shipped back when finished in about six to eight weeks. One add-on is required per piece upgraded. One dollar from every ticket supports mental health initiatives. Painting is not included in this workshop. A separate Pottery Painting Session is offered at the Pottery With a Purpose Studio in Needham, MA.

Woonsocket · Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre & Conservatory

The Worcester Chorus and Friends, Ellington and Gershwin

Worcester · The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts, 4 Southbridge St

Artist in Residence Everett McCorvey leads The Worcester Chorus, the WPI Festival Chorus, and a guest orchestra at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in a celebration of music by Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. The program highlights Gershwin with a choral version of Rhapsody in Blue, heard as You Are My Rhapsody in Blue arranged by Michael Fennelly, and with Porgy and Bess arranged for solo piano, orchestra, and chorus, presented as Robert Russell Bennett’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture. Ellington’s final composition, Three Black Kings, pays tribute to Balthazar, Solomon, and Martin Luther King Jr., completed after the composer’s death by his son Mercer and orchestrated by Luther Henderson. Widely admired as pianist composers who influenced one another, Gershwin and Ellington drew on impressionist color, improvisation, and blues harmonies, and these landmark works mark pivotal chapters in American musical history.
