The Worcester Chorus and Friends, Ellington and Gershwin

Worcester · The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts, 4 Southbridge St

Artist in Residence Everett McCorvey leads The Worcester Chorus, the WPI Festival Chorus, and a guest orchestra at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in a celebration of music by Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. The program highlights Gershwin with a choral version of Rhapsody in Blue, heard as You Are My Rhapsody in Blue arranged by Michael Fennelly, and with Porgy and Bess arranged for solo piano, orchestra, and chorus, presented as Robert Russell Bennett’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture. Ellington’s final composition, Three Black Kings, pays tribute to Balthazar, Solomon, and Martin Luther King Jr., completed after the composer’s death by his son Mercer and orchestrated by Luther Henderson. Widely admired as pianist composers who influenced one another, Gershwin and Ellington drew on impressionist color, improvisation, and blues harmonies, and these landmark works mark pivotal chapters in American musical history.

    MICO

Providence · Fete Music Hall, 103 Dike St

MICO is a Filipino-Canadian artist from Toronto who crafts emotionally charged alt pop rock that fuses the hooky nostalgia of 2000s and 2010s pop punk with modern hyperpop and alternative influences. He first connected with a devoted audience online through Discord performances, TikTok, and self-released tracks, then grew into a rapidly rising global act following breakout releases and sold-out headline tours across North America and Europe. His debut album, When the lights turn on, released via Columbia Records, was written amid constant travel, personal upheaval, and swift growth. The songs capture the chaos of coming of age in real time, touching on identity, nostalgia, heartbreak, the gap between online perception and reality, and the feeling of outgrowing places and people. Balancing hyperpop intensity, soaring pop hooks, and high-energy alternative sounds, the album presents his most personal and ambitious songwriting to date.
