Bonsai & Beer
Discover the art of bonsai in a relaxed, social setting where you can enjoy a drink with friends while creating a living work of art. Instruction comes from professional bonsai artist Alex Stanford, owner of Northeast Florida’s oldest bonsai nursery, who will teach the core skills needed to style a tree from start to finish. No prior experience or tools are required, only enthusiasm and creativity. The workshop centers on tropical varieties that are simple to maintain, even with a busy schedule. A short overview of bonsai history and fundamentals leads into hands-on potting, pruning, and styling, and everyone departs with a personalized bonsai to continue nurturing at home. Each ticket includes a quality pre-bonsai tree prepared for training, a real glazed ceramic bonsai pot, step-by-step guidance, bonsai soil, wire, drainage mesh, fertilizer, and access to all necessary tools, along with aftercare advice and ongoing support. Capacity is limited. Tickets are non-refundable, and rescheduling to a different workshop date requires a $15 fee. Beer is available for purchase at the venue and is not included with the workshop.

The Flagler Sportfishing Club Team Tournament brings two-angler teams together for a friendly, flexible competition across Flagler, Volusia, and St. Johns Counties, with fishing allowed by boat, kayak, or from the surf in accordance with FWC rules. Teams aim to weigh eligible species that include flounder, redfish, bluefish, pompano, and spotted seatrout. A catch, photo, and release longest-fish category awards $150 and requires bump board photos with timestamps. Cash awards recognize the top four teams, with $200 for first, $150 for second, $120 for third, and $80 for fourth, plus a $150 prize for the CPR longest fish. Extras include a 50/50, raffles, and a show-up drawing for a $25 gift card. Junior anglers under 16 may participate at no cost when fishing with a member, and non-member guests are welcome with a donation. The weigh-in features lunch and the announcement of results, along with time to enjoy food, raffles, and camaraderie among FSC members.

Flagler County Health and Human Services will be in the community to help older residents apply for the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program. Representatives will be available at Hidden Trails Community Center to assist with applications that may address overdue utility bills, shut-off notices, or AC and HVAC repairs. To qualify, at least one person in the household must be 60 or older, meet income requirements, and be experiencing a home energy crisis. Assistance is provided on a first come, first served basis. A beachfront home base provides restrooms, a rinse station, and air conditioning. The program runs over five days for three and a half hours per day with no weather cancellations. Instruction is delivered at a three to one student to instructor ratio by experienced, CPR certified coaches. Boards, a premium rash guard, sunscreen, photos, and a journal are included. Designed for ages 7 to 17, it is suited to beginner and intermediate surfers who are proficient swimmers. Space is limited.

Adorn Your Front Door & More brings back its creative date night for a third summer at Serendipity Marketplace. Couples will sit face to face for a Paint Your Partner Portrait Night, trading the usual dinner plan for laughter and lighthearted art, with no experience required. The evening includes dinner, dessert, and all painting supplies. Complimentary beverages will be available, and participants may bring their own.
