    Friday Night Magic Commander

The Cool Place , 2601 Dawson Road, Albany · verified Jul 31
    See details

A sanctioned Commander (EDH) night at The Cool Place - Albany features pods of up to four players, arranged as evenly as possible. Matches follow a single-elimination format, with each pod’s winner moving forward until a final winners pod plays out and places one through four are decided. Entry is $5, with $4 contributing to the prize pool and $1 to the shop. Every participant receives at least one promo, and additional prize support goes to the highest-ranked players. Prizes are awarded as store credit and-or promos. Participation promos are drawn from official Wizards of the Coast Promo Packs that are shuffled and randomly redistributed. Gold-bordered cards are allowed. Proxies are not permitted, with no exceptions. Each game is timed at 1.5 hours. When time is called, the active player completes the turn, then each other player takes one additional turn. The player with the highest life total at that point wins, and remaining life totals determine placements when applicable. A brief grace period of roughly 5 to 10 minutes may be offered to those who notify event staff about arriving late. Players who enter after the start or grace period may still participate, but relevant round losses can apply. Events may be skipped if another higher-priority program, such as a prerelease, is scheduled.
