A Midsummer Night's Dream: Free Shakespeare on the Common

Parkman Bandstand on the Boston Common, 130 Tremont St, Boston · verified Aug 9
    Free

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company celebrates its 30th anniversary with a vibrant A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined as a neon-lit festival where rules loosen and self-expression flourishes. Young lovers tumble into a realm of freedom and shifting desires while Puck, portrayed by The Skivvies’ Nick Cearley, and a band of fairies guide destinies like shadowy DJs, nudging hearts with a hint of enchanted nectar. The setting hums with music, mischief, transformation, and the spark of community. This Free Shakespeare on the Common production, directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler, takes place at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common in partnership with the City of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. Performances are free. All performances are open captioned, powered by CCTheater from AccessTech, and select performances include ASL interpretation and audio description with a tactile tour. Attendees may bring modest snacks, and for everyone’s comfort umbrellas, tents, and canopies are not allowed. Bring a blanket or your own chair, or rent a chair on site or online for $10. Reserved premium seating in the Friends Section is available with a donation of $100 or more.
