A Fireman's Muster with the New England Veterans Fireman's League centers on spirited competition and pride in the craft of firefighting. The term muster comes from centuries old military usage meaning a gathering, and in the United States these firefighting gatherings date to 1849 in Bath, Maine, where hand powered pumpers, also called hand tubs with small tanks and piston pumps, faced off to send a stream of water the farthest. Those early contests required large teams to operate the equipment and could push water more than 200 feet. The tradition soon spread across New England as fire companies came together to test themselves, showcase their equipment, and build long running rivalries with neighboring groups. This event carries that legacy forward as participants compete for a win and celebrate the history behind it.

A homeschool trip to Wolf Hollow features an educational program focused on the resident wolves, with seating on covered wooden bleachers facing the main enclosure. The presentation explores the history of wolves in the United States, pack behavior and roles, their ecological importance, the Yellowstone reintroduction, and the current status of wolves nationwide, with time for questions throughout. After the talk, participants follow the path to view additional wolf enclosures and can visit the gift shop. Student tickets are $10 and parent or guardian tickets are $12. In his honor, family and friends established a college scholarship fund. To support this fund, NBPT Cornhole is hosting its fifth consecutive benefit cornhole tournament at the outdoor pavilion of Newburyport Elks. The event features a beginner division and a competitive division, with every participant guaranteed at least six games. A handmade, one-of-a-kind teal lap quilt created by From the Heart Quilts in West Newbury will be raffled, with entries priced at $20 each or three for $50. The fundraising goal is about $2,000 and 100 percent of proceeds will be donated. The walk features course options of 1.5 miles or 3 miles.
