Flint Handmade presents a Yarn Brigade meetup at Stockton Center at Spring Grove in partnership with Stockton House, and the house will be decorated for Halloween. Participants can bring a work in progress and create alongside fellow crafters. Knitting or crochet, cross stitch, beading, drawing or coloring, and hand sewing are welcome, with a request to avoid glue and glitter. Refreshments will be available, and the gathering is open to everyone. Voluntary contributions are appreciated to benefit Stockton House. Sponsored by Financial Plus Credit Union (FPCU). Stockton House volunteers will also lead guided tours of this Michigan Registered Historic Site. A local newspaper reported the near completion of the home in 1872 for retired army colonel Thomas Stockton and his wife, Maria, praising it as elegant, stylish, and among the city’s more spacious residences. The four and a half acre grounds included a mineral spring that inspired the name Spring Grove. During his years here, Stockton worked as a commission merchant handling lime, plaster, coal, and stucco. In 1921 the Sisters of St. Joseph acquired the property and established a hospital, enlarging the building to meet growing needs, and it continued in that use until 1936.

    Tim Feldmann Ashtanga Workshops

11419 S Saginaw St, Grand Blanc · verified Aug 30
    See details

Senior Ashtanga Yoga teacher Tim Feldmann leads a warm, practice-focused weekend designed to support healing in body and mind, offer practical tools for navigating life, and encourage deeper self-inquiry. Across five sessions, each about two hours, participants explore key elements of the Primary Series and related skills, with guidance that blends clear technique, anatomical insight, and an approachable sense of humor. The weekend is open to all experience levels. One session offers a led Half Primary practice with time for questions, highlighting the grounding qualities of sun salutations and standing postures, then pausing within select seated poses to refine alignment and better understand the intent behind the practice. Another session concentrates on the latter portion of the Primary Series, from Badakonasana to Setu Bandhasana, with practical details and anatomical pointers that help you advance safely while connecting the work on the mat to everyday life. A focused workshop on the gateway postures of the Primary Series, including Bhujapidasana, Kurmasana, and Supta Kurmasana, breaks down technique and alignment so common sticking points become more manageable. By examining how the body moves in these shapes, you can remove obstacles and cultivate both freedom and strength. A guided Primary Series class explores how linking breath, movement, and a steady gaze can support health and clarity. The emphasis is on using the traditional vinyasa method as a pathway to a strong, flexible body and a more settled mind, with space to discover lessons of resilience and ease within the sequence. The weekend concludes with an in-depth look at inversions, headstands, and arm balances, offering step-by-step tools for turning upside down with stability and calm. Shoulder mechanics and full-body integration are explained so inversions on the head, hands, or elbows feel accessible and enjoyable, with options ranging from simple to more advanced. Tim has practiced since 1994 and teaches Ashtanga as a practical means for healing and growth. Certified to teach by Sharath’s Yoga Centre in Mysore and a practitioner of the Advanced A Series, he draws on his background as an internationally successful dancer and choreographer. His approach weaves anatomy, alignment, and technique with studies of Patañjali’s Sutras, Sankhya, the Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, and related texts, using lived experience on the mat to illuminate philosophy. His teaching emphasizes that steady practice, thoughtful study, and dedication can spark meaningful transformation from the inside out. Pricing: $299 for the full weekend of five workshops, or $65 for a single workshop.

Smetanka Craft Shows @ Grand Blanc High School

Grand Blanc High School, 12500 Holly Rd, Grand Blanc · verified Aug 30
    See details

The Smetanka Fall Craft Show brings a welcoming marketplace to Grand Blanc High School East Campus, known for strong turnout, a friendly atmosphere, and consistent community support. Attendees can explore creations from local artists, crafters, bakers, authors, and small business owners, with a mix of established vendors and rising makers. Each booth highlights real people, their stories, and their passion for handmade work. Smetanka Craft Shows is home to Little Dude Skeletons™, which will be on site with fall inspired pieces, Halloween Town favorites, and distinctive one of a kind designs. Little Dude Skeletons™ is survivor owned, and one dollar from every sale supports domestic violence awareness and assistance. With help from the Smetanka community, $714 was raised in 2025 and $408 in 2024, with every dollar donated to LACADA, a local shelter serving victims and their families. This platform has also helped amplify that mission through features by ABC12 Flint, WDIV Channel 4 Detroit, Oakland County Times, Voyage Michigan Magazine, and The County Press in Lapeer. The event brings small businesses, local artists, and meaningful causes together in one place.
