Registration is open for the Agent Orange Awareness 5K Run/Walk, with Jacob Matthew Jewelers as the presenting sponsor. The route begins and ends at Preservation Park, and official timing is provided by Running Fit of Ann Arbor. Participants can choose to take part in person or opt for a virtual format to complete the distance on their own schedule. Marking its fifth anniversary, the event continues its partnership with Fisher House Michigan, with proceeds supporting no-cost lodging for families and caregivers of veterans and active duty service members receiving care through the VA healthcare system. Early Bird Registration is $35, with the price increasing to $45 after the discount period. All registrants, whether in person or virtual, receive a finisher medal, and an official race shirt can be added during online registration. A 1/4 Mile Fun Run takes place shortly before the main race. Children and anyone young at heart are welcome to join by bringing a donation such as name-brand travel size toiletries, crayons and coloring books, or a $5 Kroger gift card. Pre-assembled donation packs will also be available on race day for $5, and no advance signup is required for the Fun Run.

On Saturdays, the section of Hines Drive between Ann Arbor Trail and Outer Drive becomes a vehicle-free route so people can run, walk, skate, and bike with plenty of space. Parking is available at Nankin Mills Park in Westland at the corner of Hines Drive and Ann Arbor Trail, and at Helms Haven Park in Dearborn Heights along Hines Drive west of Outer Drive. A cozy pajama themed fundraiser at Arbor Woods brings the neighborhood together for a night with heart and purpose. Organized by Building Together Community Outreach, the gathering centers on comfort, connection, and community wellbeing while raising money for local outreach. The annual Charles Pickering Memorial Golf Classic at Fellows Creek Golf Club and Banquet Facility honors Charles W. Pickering Jr., known to many as Chuck or Pick, who created this fundraiser to support his eldest daughter Terri after her ALS diagnosis. Proceeds benefit Terri Saenz and support ALS research, with a portion directed to the non profit ALS Therapy Development Institute, EIN 04-3462719. The event was previously run as the MyfriendTerri golf tournament. The tournament features a four person scramble on the course followed by a dinner that welcomes both golfers and non golfers. Tropical or Hawaiian shirts are encouraged in Chuck’s honor. A raffle with donated prizes and baskets is planned, and prize contributions as well as major sponsorships are welcomed. Options include Golf and Dinner for $125, Dinner Only for $50, and Hole Sponsorship for $100 with recognition on a sign. Funds raised provide direct help for Terri and Jeff, including support for a weekday daytime caregiver while Jeff continues to work full time.

Cranksgiving rolls out from D&D Northville with a choose-your-own-ride format that pairs fall color with a spirit of giving. Hosted by R3 and celebrating its 10th year, this community ride offers three options. Tackle roughly 35 miles to Plymouth Orchard that includes a ride-through passage in the orchard, opt for a 10 mile family ride down Hines Drive that wraps up with a visit to Parmenter’s Orchard, or take on an approximately 37 mile gravel route to Plymouth Orchard. Expect crisp air, changing leaves, and the chance to enjoy a donut along the way. Cranksgiving is a national effort that takes place in nearly 100 locations across the United States, and this edition marks the sixth annual D&D Cranksgiving. Registration is available, and participants are encouraged to share photos using #DDCranksgiving.

Learn to paint in the style of Bob Ross at Jack Kirksey Recreation Center. This class is part of a monthly series in Livonia. Registration is handled online through the venue, which requires creating a free account, and all venue rules and processes apply. No experience is needed and all supplies are included. A hands-on training day that blends advanced live-fire work with handgun cleaning fundamentals for experienced shooters. Refine on-target consistency, practice one-handed shooting with both right and left hands, balance accuracy with speed, learn to clear malfunctions, and train in low light. The session then shifts to care and upkeep with step-by-step cleaning, disassembly, reassembly, and maintenance basics. The class includes range time with a safety instructor, dedicated classroom instruction, multiple targets, and a complete cleaning kit. Cleaning solution, oil, a mat, and additional accessories are provided. This offering is not for beginners. Participants should have prior CPL or First Shots class experience. Please bring one to three handguns you are comfortable using with at least two magazines, a minimum of 200 rounds of indoor range friendly ammunition, and eye and ear protection.
