FedUp Ministries leads a chef boot camp in the YDL-Michigan Program Room, inviting highly motivated, food-curious kids to build their culinary confidence as part of a summer series. Participants choose the techniques they want to improve, whether that means preparing meals for a group, dicing any vegetable with precision, or transforming basic pantry items into something new and mouth-watering. The focus is on practical skills that encourage exploration, creativity, and skill growth in the kitchen.

Settle into a relaxed, nine week mini campaign in Meeting Room 2 at YDL-Michigan. All experience levels are welcome, with an emphasis on learning game mechanics, creating characters, and exploring the story in a laid-back setting. Each meeting builds on the previous one, but it is fine to step in even if a week is missed. The table is led by guest Dungeon Master Terance Gordon, a 2025 to 2026 Teaching Artist with 826michigan. Registration is required so materials can be prepared. Everything needed to play is supplied, including dice, character sheets, and rules references. Participation is capped at six people for this session, and if interest is higher, a parallel group may be formed. Those with Dungeon Master experience who wish to volunteer can note that during registration.

ESL community tutoring with Washtenaw Literacy provides a welcoming space to build English skills in a low-pressure, informal setting. The session is held in the meeting room at YDL-Superior in the Ypsilanti District Library. No registration is required.

This weekly small-group writing program for ages 8 to 14 takes place in the Program Room at YDL-Michigan. With guidance from volunteers in a welcoming setting, participants explore collaborative activities and also dedicate time to individual projects. By the end, each student develops and drafts an original story with publication as the goal.

Experience the wellness benefits of meditation in a relaxed, drop-in setting at YDL-Superior in the Meeting Room. Settle into calm with gentle, secular awareness exercises offered with guidance, and cultivate clarity while practicing alongside others in a welcoming space.

A welcoming gentle-flow yoga session for beginners and all bodies. Instructor Hanna leads with a lighthearted, inclusive approach that helps everyone feel relaxed and confident on the mat. The class is donation based, with a suggested contribution of $5 to $15 to support the space and the community. Advance sign-up is requested. Drop in for a single class, or purchase a bulk-class pass to use for any studio event, including dance and yoga classes and social dances. Open to all experience levels and centered on inclusivity.

At YDL-Michigan, The STEAM Scene offers a welcoming space to experiment and learn through changing weekly themes. Hands-on activities invite participants to build with Legos, use educational tools to practice STEAM ideas, try new art techniques, and even meet live animals. This session focuses on exploring natural science. Across the series, topics include computational thinking with a trading card game, music and art through a scientific lens, barbershop computing with clippers, the science of sewing, an introduction to 3D printing, weather phenomena such as tornadoes presented by EMU STEMEd Institute, LEGO SPIKE, and a comics workshop led by local creator Kamron Reynolds that covers character design, faces, backgrounds, lettering, and more. Some multi-day offerings require registration, including Barbershop Computing: Clippers and Physical Computing and the Intro to 3D Printing Miniseries.

An open playdate at YDL-Michigan features materials set out for open play with a different theme each week. Some sessions include special guests who help explore the topic in new ways. This session highlights Cardboard Creations.

A rolling showcase of classic and specialty cars fills the street, creating a lively backdrop for an evening of food and shopping. A DJ keeps the energy high while families enjoy a kids’ hula hoop contest and fun giveaways. With music in the air and plenty to explore, the scene naturally turns into dancing in the streets.

Children can practice reading aloud with a Therapaws-certified dog at YDL-Michigan in Meeting Room 2, building confidence and improving reading skills. Sessions are offered in 10-minute blocks. Registration is required by emailing mitchell@ypsilibrary.org.

Ypsilanti Zine Club gathers in the Program Room at YDL-Michigan for collaborative zine making and idea sharing. Create alongside others, trade techniques, and connect with fellow zine enthusiasts. Basic supplies are available, including paper, pens, scissors, markers, rulers, collage materials, transfer paper, and photocopying, so you can focus on building pages and layouts. Learn how to contribute your finished work to the library’s growing zine collection.

At YDL-Michigan in Meeting Room 1, Michigan Works! Southeast hosts a community outreach session with a representative available to answer questions and provide support. Get help with finding job openings, employment resources, information on job fairs, and career planning. Services are free unless otherwise noted and can include personalized guidance, connections to training opportunities, and access to free job fairs and workshops.

Rooted in the heart of Ypsilanti, this lively, community-focused farmers market brings together farm-fresh produce, handcrafted goods, and artisan products from a wide range of local farmers, food makers, and small businesses. It serves as a gathering place that expands access to healthy food, fosters economic opportunity, and builds community connections. Support area growers, explore seasonal offerings, and take in the energy of Ypsi’s local food scene.

At Bloodroot Herb Shop, this Death Cafe offers a welcoming setting for candid conversations about death and dying as part of a worldwide initiative that follows shared guidelines. The aim is to deepen awareness of mortality so people can make the most of their finite lives. There is no fixed agenda or pressure to share, and discussions are guided by those who attend. It is not a grief support group or a counseling session, yet the tone is caring and respectful of each person’s experience. Participants may speak or simply listen, and quiet participation is always okay. The gathering is free to attend, with optional donations. It is non-ideological, supportive, and respectful, open to everyone, and conversations remain confidential and inclusive. Tea, water, and light snacks are provided. The event takes place in the historic Bloodroot Herb Shop, where access to the space may involve a flight of stairs, and accommodation requests can be arranged in advance.

At the University Bank Commerce Center, the returning Ypsi Food Festival brings food lovers and local makers together for a lively community gathering. Enjoy tasty bites, browse handmade creations, and listen to live music from Roy B Vocals. Yard games and interactive activities add to the fun, offering something for everyone.

Beyond Choir presents a community performance of Mozart’s Requiem at Pease Auditorium, a historic venue on Eastern Michigan University’s campus. Regional singers brought together through the choir’s annual Summer Sing Workshop will perform this cornerstone of the choral repertoire. Seating is general admission. The concert follows a pay-what-you-can approach to keep live choral music accessible to everyone. Advance reservations are encouraged, but not required.
