The Downtown Manteo Market is a weekly community marketplace in Manteo that gathers local artisans, bakers, growers, and artists in one of the town's most picturesque locations. It offers a relaxed setting to discover locally made goods and creative work while meeting the people who craft them.

Join a free, guided nature walk exploring the Outer Banks by strolling along the Duck Boardwalk. A naturalist will lead participants to look for local wildlife, native plants, and marsh habitats, with a focus on the natural history of the Currituck Sound. Come meet Riptide, a rescued and gentled Banker horse, during this free, family-friendly program in Duck. You’ll also learn about the wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs that roam the northern beaches, plus hear from representatives from the Corolla Wild Horse Fund about their conservation efforts and how they work to protect these iconic horses. All ages are welcome.

Take in a historical firearms demonstration aboard the Elizabeth II, where a sling gun is fired to show how weapons helped safeguard passengers and crew during the Roanoke voyages. The sharp scent of gunpowder and a spirited shout of Huzah for England capture the atmosphere of the era. Programs are included with park admission and may change or be canceled due to inclement weather. A ticket is required for each guest to participate.

World-renowned illusionist Clive Allen returns for a fast-paced performance packed with mind-bending illusions, laughter, and audience participation. The show is free and takes place at the Duck Amphitheater in Duck Town Park.

Join the Elizabethan Gardens for an interactive Butterfly Release where you can watch newly emerged butterflies take their first flight. Along the way, learn about butterfly life cycles and the plants that attract them, then see the butterflies released into the gardens' butterfly habitat.

Set in the American Indian Garden, this activity invites participants to sketch a Roanoke Island plant or animal using only a description, similar to how English settlers once recorded the unfamiliar wildlife they encountered. Many of those species can still be found today, and participants may take their artwork home. Programs are included with park admission, may change or be canceled in the event of inclement weather, and each guest must have a ticket to participate.

At the Adventure Museum in Roanoke Island Festival Park, visitors explore the age-old craft of rope making and its importance at sea, with a focus on the lines used aboard the ships that carried the first English colonists to Roanoke Island. The session explains the steps of the process and offers a chance to operate a ropemaking machine. Participation requires a ticket, and the program is included with park admission. Plans may change in the event of inclement weather.

Celebrate the start of a free outdoor concert series with live music at Dowdy Park. Bring beach chairs, blankets, and a picnic to relax in the park and enjoy a friendly community atmosphere. There is no cost to attend, and the event is open to everyone for a summer evening filled with music and fun.

An annual chip timed 5k and 1 mile road event welcomes walkers, runners and racers of all ages to the streets of West Nags Head. The course and staging area are set behind the Outer Banks Mall near milepost 14 on Highway 158, with the start and finish at the intersection of West Seachase and South Links Drive behind the Outback Steakhouse. Parking is available at the mall, and portable restrooms will be on site. Race morning features on-site check in, packet pickup and late walk up registration at the start area, as there is no day-before pickup. Each entry includes an event T-shirt, a finisher medal, chip timing and post race snacks and refreshments. Awards for the 5k honor the top three overall men and women, first place masters for ages 40 and up and first place youth for ages 14 and under. The 1 mile recognizes the first overall male and female. Entry fees are $45 for adults, $40 for youth 17 and under and $40 with a military discount. Results will be emailed to participants and posted on The OBX Running Company website, and free photos and videos will be shared through their Facebook page. At the Settlement Site in Roanoke Island Festival Park, this demonstration introduces the arquebus, a matchlock small arm from the period when English colonists approached New World settlement as a military effort. Participants can explore how the firearm operates and watch it discharged on site. The park is the only historic site in the state that presents matchlock small arms. Programs are included with park admission and may be adjusted due to weather, and each guest needs a ticket to participate.

Open to families and newcomers, this friendly activity welcomes participants with no prior experience. The cost is twelve dollars per person. RSVP is requested, and more information is available.

Blue Moon Beach Grill’s summer backyard music series features a live set by Donald Rice. The 2026 lineup is designed for all ages. Performances take place outside when conditions are clear, with music moving indoors or onto the covered porch if storms arrive. Guests waiting for a table or enjoying a drink can take in the tunes.
