Outer Banks Health is providing free colon cancer screening at Outer Banks Family YMCA. Adults ages 50 to 75 can pick up a take-home fecal immunochemical test kit to screen for colon cancer. Personal results will be provided to those who attend the event. A1C screenings are also available, offering a look at average blood glucose over the previous three months. A DJ plays brief snippets, and cards are marked by identifying the track or performer. The first to complete a bingo earns bragging rights and prizes. Admission is free.

Create a keepsake inspired by maritime history at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Participants can make their own version of a sailor’s valentine, a shellwork tradition from the 1800s featuring intricate designs arranged in eight-sided, glass-covered cases. Many originals were purchased in the Caribbean by sailors returning from long voyages as gifts for loved ones. This make and take activity is free, open to the public, and does not require registration. Plan for about 30 minutes to complete the project. The craft involves fine detail and is intended for elementary-age children and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
