Enjoy no-cost community paddling on the Woonasquatucket River with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council. Friendly guides from the WRWC Paddle Team lead short 15 to 20 minute outings that introduce kayaking and canoeing in the heart of Providence. These sessions welcome beginners, families, and anyone looking to gain confidence on the water before tackling longer trips later in the season. Canoes, kayaks, paddles, and life jackets are provided. All ages and skill levels are invited, with children participating alongside an accompanying adult. Spanish interpretation will be available on site. Activities take place at the Kinsley Avenue Boat Launch in Providence, Rhode Island. Wearing a personal flotation device is required for everyone. Participants bringing their own boats must also wear a PFD and complete a waiver. Registration is encouraged but not mandatory. Portable restrooms and handwashing stations will be available. At Nick-A-Nee's, The South County Rounders bring an all-acoustic program that ranges from bluegrass and swing to old-time fiddle and banjo tunes, with folk songs both traditional and contemporary alongside their own compositions. Rooted in southern Rhode Island, they have been a familiar name to acoustic music audiences in the state and across southern New England since the 1980s. The quartet features founding partners Matt Bolles on upright bass, guitar, and vocals, and Phil Smith on guitar played in both flatpicking and fingerstyle approaches, plus banjo, dobro, and vocals. They are joined by Judy Bolles and Chris Heinzmann on two fiddles, completing the three and four part vocals.

At Wanskuck Library, The Artists Loop spotlights Romanian-American multidisciplinary artist Ana Popescu. Based in Providence, Popescu develops a ceramic-centered sculptural practice that brings together time-honored techniques, digital fabrication, and architectural ideas. Her background includes a BFA from Pratt Institute and the co-founding of an immersive events company in New York City, where, as A.Pop, she produced location-responsive installations and curated performance programs. She has also led large branded productions nationwide for prominent advertising agencies. Popescu earned an MFA in Ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design with support from the RISD Fellowship, the Windgate Foundation Scholarship, and the Graduate Ceramic Award. Her work has appeared in over two dozen exhibitions in New York City, London, Bucharest, and Providence, and she has received recognition from Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, The Art Students League of New York, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, and the CERF+ Get Ready Grant. She teaches ceramics at The Steel Yard and serves as a technical assistant in the RISD Ceramics Department, where she is slated to teach Digital Ceramics. Designed for practicing artists and curious art lovers, The Artists Loop offers a welcoming space to engage with creative practice at the library.

Get free soil testing at Rochambeau Library with help from trained URI Master Gardener volunteers. Bring about one cup of dry soil and they will check its pH and assess its texture, then provide a brief report with recommendations to improve it. For the best results, prepare a representative sample by choosing an area that is consistent in appearance, color, drainage, and use, such as a lawn or garden. Using a clean bucket and a spade, take small amounts from several spots within that area at least six inches deep, combine them, and let the mixture dry completely on newspaper or a paper plate. Break up clumps and remove stones, roots, and other debris. Place about one cup of the dry, mixed soil in a clear plastic or paper bag, label it with the area it represents, and bring it to the library for free testing.

McVinney Auditorium hosts a stop on the Strange Land Tour from the Hillbilly Thomists, a bluegrass ensemble of Dominican friars whose music grows out of the Thomistic view that grace lives in everyday life. Their name and outlook draw on Flannery O'Connor's phrase Hillbilly Thomist. Since a 2017 debut that climbed to number three on the Billboard Bluegrass chart, they have earned national recognition through acclaimed recordings and tours, including a performance at the Grand Ole Opry. Their catalog includes Living for the Other Side, Holy Ghost Power, Marigold, Carols, and their newest release, Strange Land. Proceeds from album and merchandise sales, along with donations, support the formation of Dominican friars at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., where the band first came together.

The route is paved and wheelchair accessible, moves at an easygoing, exploratory pace, and typically covers about a mile. There are no on site restrooms or water. Blackstone Field hosts a program of Hindustani classical music with Srinivas Reddy on sitar, Ajit Acharya on tabla, and friends. Indian classical music encompasses the Carnatic and Hindustani streams, and this performance highlights the northern Hindustani style, a tradition that blends Indian and Islamic aesthetics and is transmitted through close master disciple training. At its core are raga, melodic frameworks that shape mood, ornamentation and associations with time and season, and tala, rhythmic cycles brought to life on instruments such as the tabla. The program features a selection of early evening ragas presented in a variety of talas. Srinivas Reddy is a musician, scholar and translator who studied sitar with Sri Partha Chatterjee, a disciple of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. He trained in South Asian languages and literatures at Brown University and UC Berkeley, has released three independent albums and published five books, and balances performing, teaching and research, often spending summers in Rhode Island. New England based tabla player Ajit Acharya began his training with Sri Sheshagiri Rao of Bangalore, studied extensively with Dr. Rajan Sachdeva, and continues apprenticeship with Pandit Samar Saha of the Benares gharana. His work includes accompanying instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers, offering workshops across the country, and collaborations in fusion, jazz and experimental settings. Bring a blanket.

Similar to tai chi, it is practiced slowly while standing and does not follow a fixed sequence, which makes it straightforward to learn. No experience is needed. After the movement practice, participants settle onto the floor to learn a few self-acupressure points, with a couple of chairs available if preferred. The workshop concludes with a brief meditation, either seated or lying down, during which acupressure will be offered. Wear comfortable clothing. Clean shoes or bare feet are fine. No equipment is required for the qigong portion. For the closing segment, bring a mat or blanket to lie on and a block or cushion to sit on if you have them. The set draws from every phase of Harrison’s career, including his solo releases from the 1970s through the 1990s, music from his time with the supergroup Traveling Wilburys, and songs he wrote for artists such as Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, and Ringo Starr. The performance will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Amphitheater, and parking is available in the City Hall parking lot. Canned goods and other nonperishable donations will be collected to support the Blackstone Valley Food Center in its work to address hunger in the Blackstone Valley area. The MetClear Currents Community Paddling Night
WaterFire Providence, with support from Brown University and Amica Insurance, presents Clear Currents, an annual community paddling event that celebrates clean water in Rhode Island. As many as 80 registered kayakers take to the water with illuminated Japanese koi lanterns affixed to their boats, moving among 76 wood burning braziers for a striking way to experience a WaterFire lighting. On shore there are live performances along with food and craft vendors. Participation is limited to experienced paddlers 18 and older who bring their own solo kayak under 14 feet, along with paddles and a personal flotation device. Paddle boards, canoes, inflatable kayaks, and outriggers are not permitted. Registration is $50 per solo kayak and includes a commemorative Clear Currents t-shirt, and WaterFire installs the illuminated fish on each kayak. Paddlers are organized into six schools, and including the names of companions at registration keeps groups together. At Ted's Stadium Kitchen and Pub, beginners can dive into stained glass by creating a butterfly plant stake. Materials and patterns are prepared in advance, so the focus stays on making. Choose from several color combinations and add a dangling crystal bead accent. The session starts with a brief overview of safety and essential tools, then moves into hands-on work with pre-cut glass and preparation for assembly. Participants learn the copper foil method, wrapping edges for clean results, followed by soldering to bring the butterfly together with neat lines and sturdy construction. Once assembled, the piece is hung from a metal hook for display in a plant or garden, and simple finishing steps cover cleaning, polishing, and checking durability. By the end, participants take home a finished butterfly stake, practical experience with foiling and soldering, and added confidence for future stained glass projects. The first session centers on fueling and caring for the body with evidence-based guidance, including building balanced meals, sustaining energy with smart snacks, practicing self-care, and cultivating gratitude for one’s body. The second session turns aspirations into concrete steps, using reflection, visualization, and journaling to clarify motivations, set clear goals, and grow confidence in both dance and life. The third session supports a healthier relationship with the dance body through tools for body neutrality, self-compassion, resilient thinking, and a more supportive inner dialogue. Rooted in The Nourished Dancer approach, these workshops meet dancers where they are and provide practical, research-informed strategies that help them integrate what they learn and thrive on stage and beyond. Instruction is led by Nicole Sabella, a dance professional who spent ten years touring internationally with the Mark Morris Dance Group, a dedicated educator, a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, a certified EFT Tapping Practitioner, and a wellness workshop facilitator. As the founder of The Nourished Dancer, she has guided dancers since 2020 through one-on-one coaching and group workshops. The cost is $30 for a single session or $80 for the full three-part series, and space is limited.

Celebrate Greek culture at the 99th Annual Greek Festival, a village style celebration presented rain or shine under tents. Enjoy live music from Georgios Karatzas and Athenian Entertainment as the atmosphere fills with dancing and community spirit. Savor authentic favorites such as gyros, chicken and pork souvlaki, pastitsio, moussaka, spanakopita, and stuffed grape leaves, alongside sweet treats like loukoumades, baklava, galaktoboureko, kourabiedes, finikia, koulourakia, and rice pudding. The kafenio offers Greek coffee and frappe, a Baklava Cheesecake specialty, and traditional spirits including ouzo, Mavrodaphne, Metaxa, and mastiha. Throughout the festival, the Greek Pride Dance Troupe performs in full regional attire and invites attendees to step into traditional dances to live music. Gain on-camera combat skills in a three hour, hands-on introductory workshop led by certified Actor Combatant Cari Keebaugh. Participants practice selling punches, strikes, and reactions for the camera, learn partner timing, distance, and controlled movement, and explore how to create convincing action without injuring a scene partner. The gala focuses on raising vital funds to grow programs and strengthen services for those who need them most, with a goal of $150,000. Support can be provided through sponsorships that include acknowledgment in the program and recognition during the event, as well as through donations or reserving a table for this celebration.
Rhodes on the PawtuxetGreenway Wild Walks: Secret of the Squirrels
Explore the hidden lives of local squirrels on a family-friendly Greenway Wild Walk focused on their survival skills. Learn how six species find food, stay safe, and adapt to the seasons, visit a pop-up mini museum, make a squirrel craft, and head out on a guided nature walk to look for clues and wildlife along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. This program is presented by the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council in partnership with 15 Minute Field Trips, and is led by Melissa, with hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and opportunities to observe nature up close. The Greenway section used for these walks features the Native Plant Garden, the Manton Outdoor Classroom, the Manton Fishway, and examples of stormwater management and streambank restoration, a revitalized area that serves as both an educational and recreational space. Walks welcome all ages and move at an easy, exploratory pace, usually covering about a mile on a paved, wheelchair-accessible path. There are no on-site restrooms or water, and the nearest public restroom is at a Cumberland Farms. Limited parking is available at the Manton Outdoor Classroom, including accessible spots. Programs are conducted primarily in English.

Providence City Councilor Justin Roias invites residents to take part in a neighborhood cleanup aimed at reducing litter and curbing illegal dumping. The effort encourages neighbors to take ownership of their surroundings so the places they live look better by the end of the effort, rather than waiting for someone else to step in. Community members can also share suggestions for locations that need care, such as vacant lots, parks, or street corners, to help ensure no area is overlooked.

Enjoy a day on the course at Cranston Country Club while supporting the Special Signal Fire Association, known as the Providence Canteen. This 10th annual tournament raises funds for daily operations that aid fire, police, and EMS personnel, as well as community events across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, a tradition that has continued for more than 50 years. The outing includes 18 holes with carts, breakfast and coffee at registration provided by the Providence Canteen, hot dogs and hamburgers at the turn, and a buffet dinner followed by a raffle with a variety of prizes. Entry is $150 per golfer or $600 per foursome, and dinner only is available for $30. Raffle tickets are sold prior to dinner. Local unions and businesses can sponsor a tee sign for $100. Browse more than 90 booths from vendors based in Rhode Island and beyond, with finds spanning many eras, styles, and budgets. Every ticket includes a drink perk that can be redeemed for a small 5 oz beer or cocktail, a hot coffee from New Harvest, or a non‑alcoholic beverage, or it can be used for $2 off any full‑sized drink at the Inside Voices bar. Two pop‑up restaurants and a bakery will be on site to keep shoppers fueled. Early Buying Hour and General Admission options are available. Early entry tickets are limited, include a drink and a limited‑edition LCT tote printed by Hungry Ghost Press, and provide access before general admission.
