ARIA Writing Academy Class: How AI Is Transforming Writing & Publishing

An ARIA Writing Academy class at Stillwater Books examines how artificial intelligence is changing both the craft and the business of writing and publishing. The seminar covers practical uses of AI for drafting, revising, marketing, and reaching readers, and it also tackles key questions around originality, authorship, and ethics. Participants come away with a clear sense of the capabilities and limits of these tools, where they are already showing up across the wider publishing landscape, and how to fold them into a personal workflow without sacrificing the human voice readers prize. The session is led by Steven R. Porter, author of "Fiddlehead," "Confessions of the Meek & the Valiant," and "Manisses," co-author of "Scared to Death... Do it Anyway" with Brian Beneduce, a former Director of Advertising and Public Relations for the Lauriat's Bookstore chain, and the founder of the Association of Rhode Island Authors. Along with his wife, Dawn, he owns Stillwater Books and Stillwater River Publications, a hybrid independent publisher with a catalog exceeding 900 titles, both in West Warwick, Rhode Island.

Wide Open Spaces

Wide Open Spaces brings its border-blurring bluegrass to Nick-A-Nee's, using fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass to roam from the Kentucky hills to Celtic ceilidh energy, Caribbean island rhythms, and California's gold country. Rooted in tradition yet shaped by contemporary songwriting, rock-jazz inflections, and close three-part harmonies, the show stretches what bluegrass can be while keeping it playful. Hints of Claire Lynch and the Punch Brothers surface along the way, and the lineup draws on experience from Acoustic Planet, The Oakhurst Boys, and Mud Rocheleau-Demers of the acoustic duo Chuck and Mud. Expect quicksilver fiddle tunes, fiery guitar breaks, spacey banjo flights, and vocal blends that nod to the Beatles and Alison Krauss, plus original material that tips its hat to Jimmy Buffett, the Punch Brothers, and Doyle Lawson. Surprises are part of the plan, and the result is an upbeat acoustic ride.
