Make room for creative messes with a summer-long art program that shifts themes each month. June spotlights celebrated artists such as Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock, Vincent van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keefe, with weekly projects that reinterpret their styles using paint and mixed materials, from tissue paper watercolor and splatter techniques to finger painting inspired by Starry Night and flower stamp watercolors. July adds plenty of sparkle through glitter creations like fireworks, glue designs, stars, magic wands, and fish. August turns to yarn, beginning with a yarn monster collage and wrapping up with yarn painting. This is a drop-in program and is included with general admission.

Weekly Art Studio Class for Adults

Adults of all experience levels can set aside focused studio time in a welcoming weekly class. Bring your own artwork and preferred 2D media to develop a series, practice techniques, or simply make space to create, with individualized coaching, group demonstrations, and optional critiques led by artist Kelly Lucarelli. The format blends independent work time with supportive guidance from both the instructor and peers, building a friendly community of adult artists. Drop-in participation is $35, and a four-week option is available for $120, a $20 savings. Accepted media include watercolor, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastels, soft pastels, collage, mixed media, and digital art. Oil paints and clay are not allowed. The program spotlights Rev. Mary Lautzenhiser Bellon, Ph.D., who will share her poetry, including selections from her book Awakened Geographies. Following her reading, there will be time for refreshments, book sales, and conversation. An open reading will conclude the gathering, giving attendees a chance to offer their own work. Rev. Bellon is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church with many years of pastoral leadership and counseling experience. She served as lead pastor at Collegiate United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation in Ames, Iowa, directed the Office of Pastoral Care and Counseling in Iowa for twenty years, and earlier served congregations near Albany, New York. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. from Claremont School of Theology, a Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and dual B.A. degrees in English Literature and Women’s Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She has training in psychotherapeutic trauma recovery and graduate certificates in Contemplative Practices in a Clinical Setting from Smith College School of Social Work and in Professional Supervision from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in publications such as Lyrical Iowa and Kakalak. This event is free and open to the public, and donations are appreciated.

Food Trucks Under the Friday Night Lights 2026 - Dorman - October 2, 2026 - Pink Out

Now in its fourth year, this event pairs a variety of food trucks with varsity football at Bob Jones Stadium as the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets face the Dorman Cavaliers. It is the annual Pink Out in support of the school’s cancer fundraiser. A game ticket is required to access the food trucks, with options that include single-game tickets, All-Sports passes, and Football Season tickets.

The Fall Artisan Market gathers local makers in a picturesque part of Anne Springs Close Greenway, showcasing handmade goods such as home decor, candles, soaps, holiday gifts, and family-oriented items. Visitors can enjoy the cooler weather while browsing and can refuel at the Greenway Canteen with meals and snacks, warm beverages like loose leaf tea and lattes suited to a cool morning, and refreshing choices including prosecco and draft beer to pair with their shopping.

Swim Across America - Charlotte Open Water Swim

Celebrating its 10th year, this community swim takes place at YMCA Camp Thunderbird. Swimmers and volunteers of every age and experience level can get involved, choosing between the open water of Lake Wylie and the on-site pool. Proceeds support Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte.

Movies in the Park - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Enjoy an outdoor screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas at Fountain Park as part of the Movies in the Park series. This family friendly program runs from June through October with films shown every second Friday. The movie begins once it is dark enough to see the screen, and start times in September and October move earlier with the sunset. REC in a Box offers activities before the film. Please note that the July edition of the series takes place at McGirt Auditorium.

The Beach Bash season wraps up with The Main Event Band, recently featured at the Shaggers' Convention SOS, for an evening of live music, food, and fun with friends. This family friendly celebration offers on-site food trucks and beverages for all ages, and kids get in free. Enjoy seafood favorites from Cob Abby along with hamburgers, wings, hot dogs, and more from The Cook and the Farm. The Main Event Band brings a high energy mix spanning beach music, classic rock, soul, country, disco, funk, and hits from the 80s, 90s, and today, powered by standout vocals, a tight rhythm section, and a strong horn lineup. The group has earned CBMA nominations, including the song Hello Stranger in the 2021 Smoothie or Ballad category, and recognition for Sharon Hyler as Female Vocalist and Rising Star in 2021 and 2022. General admission is priced at 25 dollars in advance and 30 dollars at the door, and advance tickets are available now. VIP admission is limited and costs 50 dollars per person, with covered tent seating and chairs, a premium viewing area closer to the stage, and access to a private bar.
