Get Hooked at Sea 8

A creative sailing retreat aboard the J&E Riggin, a National Historic Landmark schooner, departs from Rockland, Maine and centers on rug hooking with artist and teacher Hayley Perry. The focus is on working in a fast, small-format series to discover a personal aesthetic, emphasizing play and experimentation over perfection. Inspiration flows from Maine’s coastline, conversations on deck, and the materials themselves, with time to notice recurring choices that help define an artistic voice. Participants make a collection of small hooked pieces and also explore drawing and watercolor. Conversations cover design fundamentals, landscape and abstraction, and ways to mix materials in rug hooking. The experience includes four nights on the J&E Riggin with daytime sails across Penobscot Bay, opportunities to hop between islands, visit coastal villages, or take a hike, and calm, protected waters where seasickness is not a concern. Ten gourmet meals are prepared by a professional chef on a wood-burning stove, highlighted by an abundant all-you-can-eat lobster bake on a Maine island. Coffee, tea, and plenty of snacks are available throughout the day in the galley. Instruction welcomes all levels, and no prior rug hooking experience is required. All project materials are provided, with only a hook and scissors needed from each participant. Extras include a hand-stamped 207 Creatives zippered canvas tote containing a quality hook or a frame along with other gifts, plus a small surprise gift bag. Pricing is 1895 USD for first-time sailors and 1795 USD for returning sailors. A non-participating cabin-mate may share a cabin for 1795 USD.
