    Awaken Sessions

Awaken Sessions, 140 W Main St, Kingsport
    See details

Awaken Sessions hosts a writer’s room centered on a Hook Challenge, creating a dedicated space for songwriters, musicians, and singers to build ideas together. It is neither a worship gathering nor a showcase, but a hands-on creative environment. Participants are grouped by role, forming smaller teams or working as one collective based on attendance. Each group receives a focused window to craft a hook or chorus idea, aiming for raw, in-the-room creativity rather than polished songs. By the end, hooks are captured in session-style recordings, with video documented throughout the process. Each hook is shared individually online, and the ideas that gain momentum help shape what is developed in future sessions. There is no expectation to complete full songs. The emphasis is collaboration, chemistry, and discernment. This is an intentional, participation-based session rather than a drop-in, and space is limited to protect the creative atmosphere. Ideal for songwriters, musicians, and singers seeking a focused, collaborative setting.

    Folsom Prison Experience

Paramount Bristol, 518 State St, Bristol · verified Jul 31
    See details

Step inside the day Johnny Cash recorded At Folsom Prison with a fully immersive theatrical experience that rebuilds the tension, grit, and crackling energy of that pivotal moment. At that time, his personal life was strained, the hits had slowed, and studio sessions were stalling, so he took an unexpected gamble by capturing a live album inside the maximum-security prison. What seemed straightforward unraveled into a blur of nerves, strict security, and backstage turmoil, until Cash and the Tennessee Three stepped onstage and transformed that pressure into a performance that helped shape American music history. This production places you in the middle of the story from intake through roll call. You will serve your “sentence” as an inmate, feel the watchful eyes of the guards and the presence of the Warden, and share the electricity of a captive audience. Jay Ernest of Church of Cash portrays Johnny Cash, joined by Kat Perkins, Brad Erickson, Dan Hopman, Ryan Nelson, Zach “Poppa Bear” Norton, and Bronson Bergeson. The ensemble brings June Carter, the Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, and the Tennessee Three to life. More than a typical tribute, it invites you to spend a night inside the prison concert that made history.

    See details

The Wallflowers bring a 30th anniversary celebration of Bringing Down the Horse to this tour stop, performing the album from beginning to end in the order it was recorded. The breakthrough release became both a critical and commercial success, rising to number four on the Billboard 200 and earning quadruple platinum status. Its run of singles left a lasting mark, with 6th Avenue Heartache earning two Grammy nominations, One Headlight topping the Billboard singles chart, winning two Grammys, and landing at number 58 on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Pop Songs, The Difference receiving a Grammy nomination, and Three Marlenas serving as the final single. Shaped by first-generation American songwriters like The Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the group will also honor the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by playing Tom Petty’s Long After Dark in full and in sequence. The tour also includes a performance at Stagecoach, known as the world’s largest country music festival. Jakob Dylan, the band’s chief songwriter, has longstanding ties to this musical lineage, having inducted Tom Petty into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, appearing in the Echo in the Canyon documentary, and collaborating with artists including Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Beck, Cat Power, Norah Jones, and Regina Spektor. His songwriting has reached film and television as well, from The Wallflowers’ version of Heroes for the Godzilla soundtrack to Arms of a Ghost for NCIS Los Angeles and Nothing But the Whole Wide World for Friday Night Lights. The band has also supported Eric Clapton on U.S. tours and shared stages with The Who and The Rolling Stones.
