Rebirth Wednesdays - Midweek Ecstatic Dance

Austin Ecstatic Dance Center, 10203 Old Manchaca Rd, Austin · verified Oct 4
    See details

Rebirth Wednesdays offers a midweek ecstatic dance rooted in Austin’s original practice style, focused and uncluttered. The environment is held as a safe, inclusive space for cultivating a gentle mind and body movement practice, with clear consent guidelines and boundaries that help the non-conscious mind relax and surrender. Arrive as you are, express for yourself, and let movement lead. Similar to yoga or meditation, the practice often feels even better afterward, and returning regularly can reinforce a sense of safety while quieting the mind. Music is guided by a rotating group of facilitators and DJs who shape each journey as an invitation to surrender, deepen, and blossom through a full 5Rhythms wave. The arc moves from Flowing, rises into Chaos, and settles into Stillness, with time to warm up followed by a complete main wave. Wear comfortable layers you can move and sweat in, and bring a water bottle. This gathering takes place at Austin Ecstatic Dance Center. Admission is $20 at the door, with sliding scale options available.

Chinese Football formed in Wuhan and draws on the spirit of 1990s indie rock, shaping a sound that is both direct and carefully detailed, polished yet rough around the edges. Their songs dwell on passion, imagination, and the weight of setbacks, delivered with momentum and heart. Since a self-titled debut in 2015, the band has earned a reputation for charged, dynamic shows, becoming a mainstay at live houses and major festivals across China. Two game-themed mini-albums, Here comes a new challenger! (2017) and Continue? (2019), paved the way for the 2022 full-length Win & Lose, completing a trilogy. Their scope widened in 2023 with a 35-day, 22-show trek across Europe that included a slot at the UK’s ArcTanGent festival, reinforcing a drive to push beyond regional boundaries and meet audiences worldwide with full commitment. In 2024 they launched the Scenery world tour, playing 40 shows across China before returning to Southeast Asia and Taiwan, then undertaking a first North American tour where 10 of 12 dates sold out. They also recorded live sessions with Audiotree and KEXP. The Schizophonics hit the stage like a burst of electricity and refuse to ease up. Guitars snarl, grooves slam, and the intensity stays in the red from start to finish. This San Diego trio brings a show that is loud, wild, and relentlessly fun, a high voltage sprint of feedback, rhythm, and sweat. Pat Beers leads on vocals and guitar, Lety Beers drives the kit, and Sarah Linton locks down the bass. Together they fire off a fuzz-laden, funk-charged attack built on thundering beats and untamed energy. Each song lands like a jolt. The room feels ready to buckle. Blink and a moment is gone, stand still and the momentum rolls right over you. Forged by constant touring, they have rattled stages across fourteen countries and earned a reputation for flipping rooms on their head. Echoes of James Brown, Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, and The Sonics surge through the set as they distill rock to its most volatile parts and let it loose. Beneath the chaos sits tight precision, and beneath the noise are hooks that sink in. The band is currently wrapping work on its fourth full-length album.

Music runs in the family too, with his mother Sylvia Kirk, an older guitarist brother, and the twins he is older brother to. Years of performing across San Antonio and South Texas clubs, listening rooms, river outfitters, weddings, the Virgin Islands, vineyards, legendary halls, and even the back of pickup trucks for coworkers have led to a debut album with Matt Kirk and the Güeyfarers that has been two decades in the making. Purple Flagging The Cemeteries

Comal Cemetery, 422 Peace Ave, New Braunfels
    Free

At Comal Cemetery, volunteers come together to locate and mark every veteran’s resting place in preparation for National Wreaths Across America Day. Because these cemeteries are not part of the national system and many headstones do not clearly note military service, teams use cemetery grid maps to find known veterans. One person navigates with the map while another places a purple flag at each identified grave. Purple is used because it is not a color employed by the cemeteries, which reduces confusion and helps participants find veterans when wreaths are placed. Multiple sessions are planned, with extra dates set aside in case of inclement weather or if more time is needed to finish the work. Arrival is flexible, and contributions of any length are appreciated. Students seeking volunteer or community service hours are encouraged to participate, and service-hour forms will be signed. The aim is to ensure every veteran across the cemeteries along Peace Avenue is identified, honored, and ready to receive a wreath.
