Every turn reshapes the terror... one hallway drifts through fog and gravestones with the dead close by, the next winds into a warped cornfield where scarecrows and unseen creatures wait between the stalks. Keep going and the nightmares shift again... chaotic clowns, eerie dolls, zombies, restless spirits, nods to horror classics, sinister nuns, exorcist-inspired moments, and figures lurking just out of sight, with plenty of surprises left unannounced. The frights are not confined to the sets, either. Performers may pursue, shadow, or sneak up from behind to keep nerves on edge from start to finish, and while the interaction is intense, actors do not touch guests. With new scares, expanded scenes, and hidden twists throughout the path, this chapter pushes the hysteria even higher.

A Halloween weekend of Cuban music and dance arrives in Washington, DC with guest artist Rachel Ortiz. Originally from Santiago de Cuba and a former principal dancer with the internationally renowned All Stars Santiago de Cuba, she is now based in Florida and brings a style rooted in Santiago’s Afro-Cuban and Franco-Haitian heritage. Presented by DC Casineros, the festivities blend Son Cubano, Timba and Reparto with Casino and Rueda de Casino. The weekend opens with a Cuban dance social and Halloween party at Dance Place Main Theater. It begins with a Cuban popular dance and musicality session led by Rachel, then continues with social dancing featuring DJ Cokie and DJ.1999 spinning Cuban popular music. Costumes that are easy to dance in are encouraged. Drinks, appetizers, liquor and wine will be available for purchase. At Corgi Clay Art Center in Stafford, VA, this one day raku workshop led by Deb Balestreri explores the dramatic, fast paced firing method that transforms glazed ceramics in real time. Participants remove hot pieces from the kiln and place them into metal containers with materials like sawdust or newspaper, then seal the lid to create a reduction atmosphere. This process can produce vivid color shifts, crackle surfaces, and metallic effects, and it also means raku pieces are decorative only since the glazes are not food safe and are rarely watertight. The kiln is fired at least twice during the session, and everyone is expected to take part in the firing and cleanup. There will be some downtime while the kiln runs, with the option to make additional work in the studio, followed by quick team unloading once each firing is complete. Safety is essential around heat and smoke, so cotton clothing is recommended and long hair should be tied back. Glazing happens at the start of the workshop with a cut off for the first firing, and there is time to keep glazing for later rounds. Glazes are provided, and participants may bring a commercial raku glaze to test. This is a BYOB event… bring your own bisqueware. Cotton clothing and tied-back long hair are recommended, and participants should be comfortable with heat and smoke as the process involves burning combustibles and active teamwork around hot equipment. Glazing begins at the start of the workshop with a cutoff for the first firing, and there is time to continue glazing for later rounds. Glazes are provided, and commercially made raku glazes may be brought to try. Staff facilitate the firings and answer questions, and all students are expected to assist with the firing and cleanup. This is not a rain or shine event, so unfavorable weather such as rain or lightning will result in cancellation and rescheduling. Flora from Maafa celebrates a birthday with a hardcore lineup featuring Baltimore’s Stout performing in DC alongside Maafa, DC/Baltimore’s Secret Society, The Screws, and DC bands Balisong and Fade to Nothing. This is an all ages event with $22 admission.

Northern Virginia’s original reptile expo comes to Fredericksburg inside the J.E. Rowell building, bringing a wide range of reptiles, exotic animals, arachnids, supplies, and feeder options together in one place. Admission is paid in cash at the door. Belle Grove Plantation hosts a holiday brunch filled with Grinchy mischief and cheerful moments. The famously green troublemaker will wander through the dining room during the meal, interacting with guests and eyeing the playful menu, then head to the grand hallway for photos that capture the spirit of the season. Two brunch plates are offered. One features whimsical pancakes topped with whipped cream and heart sprinkles with a side of sausage. The other includes a “Who Roast Beast” baked ham, green scrambled eggs blended with spinach and cream cheese, and roasted potato hash. Every guest receives a serving of “Who Pudding,” a light mix of fresh strawberries and vanilla yogurt with whipped cream. Beverages include green tinted milk, orange juice, and, for adults, coffee and Grinch mimosas. Each attendee also takes home a festive holiday cookie. The mansion is decked out with elegant Christmas decorations for an immersive seasonal atmosphere. Multiple seatings are available to help accommodate families, and the earliest seating includes a special visit from Santa. A separate meet and greet with the Grinch paired with a holiday mansion tour is also offered, and optional mansion tours are available at select times. Ticket options include a brunch seating that features both the Grinch and Santa at $50 per adult and $30 per child ages 5 to 12, with children 4 and under free. Another brunch seating with the Grinch is $40 per adult and $25 per child ages 5 to 12, with children 4 and under free. A Grinch meet and greet with a holiday mansion tour is $15 per person for all ages. An add-on mansion tour is $15 per person for ages 13 and up, while ages 12 and under are free. Reservations are required. Tickets are non-refundable. If weather impacts the event, a gift certificate will be issued for the amount paid to be used at a future event.
